Gambling! Week 8 College Football Picks And Lines To Watch

Getty Images

Last week: 3-1
Season record: 12-8

All lines according to OddsShark as of 11:30 a.m., on 10/19
Utah Utes at California Golden Bears
I got very excited when I saw this one. The line has moved a full three points in California's favor after opening as a pick em. 70% of the money is siding with the Utes despite the line change. Cal wins and leaves the Utes still waiting for their first Pac-12 victory (which I obviously will not rib them for, as much as I want to).
The pick - Cal -3

Kansas St. Wildcats at Kansas Jayhawks (+11)
This (as well as the Missouri - Oklahoma State contest) is the casual football fans "what the hell?" line of the week. An hour after opening at KSU -15, enough money came in to drop the line all the way to 12.5. In the two days since it has fallen even further to 11. This is all despite 95% (yes, you read that correctly) of the money siding with the Wildcats. One of the bigger "Vegas plays" we have seen this year.
The pick - Kansas +11

Illinois Fighting Illini at Purdue Boilermakers (+4)
Same old story. 2.5 line drop (it has now moved back up to 4) despite 90% of the money on Illinois. Both the Illini and GT are being somewhat exposed during a more difficult portion of the conference schedule. We're taking Purdue for the second week in a row.
The pick - Purdue +11

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Miami Hurricanes (-3)
This one isn't as much about a line move as it is about a somewhat odd looking spread. It hasn't moved more than a half of a point since opening at 3 and almost 3/4's of the dollars are on the Yellow Jackets. The Hurricanes have been playing well lately and will hand Georgia Tech their second loss in a row.
The pick -  Miami -3
