Colorado Buffaloes Land 22nd Commitment of 2010 Class in New Jersey S Terrel Smith
Terrel Smith
Rivals Star Rating -

S - Wayne, New Jersey - Passaic County Tech
Recruiting: Youtube
Measurables: 5'9" 180
Rankings: Not Ranked
Offers and Other Interested Schools - None
Commentary: The Buffs received a late 2010 commitment today from New Jersey S Terrel Smith. This is the second commitment to the 2010 class from the state of New Jersey (RB Tony Jones). The Buffs needed defensive back depth out of this class and Smith helps fill that void. The only other defensive back on the 2010 commitment list is CB Jered Bell. Colorado will lose their two top defensive backs next year in CB Jalil Brown and CB Jimmy Smith. According to cubuffs.com, Smith is 5'10", rivals.com has him listed at 5'8" 180 pounds. For a safety, that is a little on the small side so let's hope he is closer to 5'10". If you watch the video below, he can certainly lay the wood. Smith excelled on both sides of the ball and was one of the state leaders in tackles.
Also from cubuffs.com:
Smith, from Paterson, N.J., is a 5-10, 185-pound senior at Passaic County Tech High School in nearby Wayne. He was a third-team All-State, first-team All-Passaic County and first-team All-Tri County A League his senior season. He is the sixth member of the class on the defensive side of the football.
He was 1,000-yard rusher (1,261 yards, 10 touchdowns) and 100-tackle performer (117, 61 solo) with 24 passes broken up and three interceptions as a senior.
Here is a great article on Smith from New Jersey.com:
Terrel Smith smiled as he recalled his days as a 6-year-old flag-football player in Paterson.
His aggression drew plenty of penalties during his first season because Smith sometimes tackled opponents when he was supposed to yank flags from their belts.
"I love hitting people," Smith said. "That’s my thing."
Smith also loves hitting holes, and he has done both exceptionally well while helping Passaic Tech, ranked No. 12 in the North Jersey Top 25, to a 4-1 record entering its meaningful NJTCC game at No. 25 Passaic (3-2) on Saturday.
The senior tailback-safety has rushed for 759 yards in five games and has scored three touchdowns for the Bulldogs, who’ve won four straight since losing their opener to Montclair, 22-19. He also has recorded 49 tackles, intercepted three passes and defended six others.
A starter since midway through his freshman season, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Smith has drawn interest from Boston College and Pittsburgh. Recruiters from those schools like Smith as a cornerback, while numerous Division I-AA programs are recruiting him as a running back and defensive back.
"He runs the ball hard, he makes good cuts and he’s fast," Passaic Tech coach John Iurato said. "But as a safety, he’s ferocious. He hits like a truck. He’s just been our main stopper back there. He does the things that need to be done in the middle of the field. He calls the signals, he moves guys around. He’s a quarterback on the defensive side. He just helps us out in so many ways."
In 2008 as a junior, Smith was named first team All-NHC Skyline as a running back, showing his athletic ability to be dominant at multiple positions.

Buffs Land TE/WR Harold Mobley, Four Potential Tight Ends Signed This Class
Harold Mobley
Rivals Star Rating -

Athlete - Corona, California - Eleanor Roosevelt High School
Recruiting Sites: Rivals - Scout - ESPN.com
Video: ESPN, Scout TV
Measurables: 6'4" 225lbs 4.55 forty
Rankings: Rivals - 41st TE in nation, Scout - 66th TE in nation, ESPN - 64th WR in the nation
Status - Uncommitted, will visit Nebraska next week. He was one of 68 visiting recruits October 15th at UCLA
Offers and Other Interested Schools - offers from Nebraska, Colorado, UNLV, Nevada, Arizona and Fresno State. Interest from UCLA.
Commentary: He projects as either a wide receiver or tight end at the next level and has great size to do some things at the next level. Mobley's final two schools came down to the Buffs and Nevada. Mobley had interest from UCLA and Oregon as well as an offer from Nebraska. He also visited Nebraska. There is some concern about Mobley's academic standing and his ability to qualify for the University of Colorado. He visited Colorado on October 31st for the Missouri game. Mobley has some good bloodlines as well, related to former Denver Broncos LB John Mobley and he has great versatility to play multiple positions. He also had good things to say about Colorado, but that was also in May:
Mobley is versatile, having played quarterback, receiver, tight end, linebacker, defensive end, punter and long snapper. No word on whether he diagrams plays or sings the National Anthem, as well.
He told the Web site he envisions himself catching passes in college.
"The big thing is that there were 15 colleges that came by our school," Mobley told rivals. "I talked to just about every one of them. I really liked the Colorado guys."
Mobley, rivals.com said, is related to two former NFL players: His cousin is former Broncos linebacker John Mobley and his great uncle is former Rams defensive lineman Roosevelt Grier, a member of Los Angeles' famous "Fearsome Foursome."
Mobley is a physically-impressive football player who is a dominant figure on the gridiron. Built more like a tight end than wide receiver, he shows exceptional quickness and athleticism.
The term "athlete" describes Mobley well as last week he was inserted as a quarterback and excelled:
Many colleges are coveting Harold Mobley for his ability to catch the football. Thursday, Mobley proved he is quite adept at delivering the passes, too. Making his first start at quarterback this season, Mobley tossed four touchdown passes and rushed for two more scores as Eastvale Roosevelt routed Riverside Poly, 46-10, in a Big VIII League game at Riverside King.
"Harold is a tremendous athlete," Mustangs coach Bill Stacy said. "You could plug him in at running back, defensive end or linebacker and expect good things."
Stacy asked Mobley to step in under center for this game, replacing sophomore Aaron Crone, who struggled in recent weeks. Mobley rewarded his coach's decision, completing 8 of 12 passes for 254 yards. He also rushed for 81 yards on 11 carries.
"I was excited to get the chance," Mobley said. "I was confident the line would hold them back and give me the time I needed."
Austin Hill did much of the work on Roosevelt's first scoring play. Mobley tossed a screen pass, and Hill weaved his way downfield for a 56-yard touchdown. Riverside Poly (3-4, 1-3 in league) took a 10-6 lead when quarterback Matt Okey scored from 6 yards out. Mobley's second touchdown of the night was his most impressive. Standing flat-footed and about to be hit, Mobley hurled the ball into the end zone, finding Tyler Slavin for another 56-yard touchdown.
"People around school know I can throw the ball around 70 yards," Mobley said. "I just decided to huck that one as far as I could."
From his scout.com bio:
As a 2008 junior at Corona (Calif.) Roosevelt, Mobley had 22 catches for 345 yards and six touchdowns, ran for 64 yards and a score, threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns and had a sack on defense. He says he can bench 275-pounds, squat 485 and claims a 40-inch vertical jump.
Mobley: "I’m hard to bring down. I can get yards after the catch. I have good balance and strength and I always find a way to stay up.
"I want to improve my speed and route running. Speed is something you always want more of and I’d like to get more open."
Here is a little video of a big time hit Mobley had earlier in the year.

QB Munchie Legaux Commits to Cincinnati
According to the University of Cincinnati Official Website, Munchie Legaux has officially committed to the Bearcats. He sent in his letter of intent to Cincinnati at 8:51 am ET. QB Munchie Legaux from New Orleans, LA by far had the most BCS offers of any verbal commitment to the Buffs. Cincinnati entered the Munchie sweepstakes late in the process after new head coach Butch Jones took over. Cincinnati showed Munchie their BCS game last year, told him he will have a chance to play quarterback and obviously, that has some power.
The University of Colorado website will not be providing the names of players who sent their letter of intents until after the day is over, another questionable move by the great regime we have in Boulder. It is beyond me on a day that tries to create buzz about the new players of the program and the future that you wouldn't get people excited about new commitments. But I guess we shouldn't be surprised anymore. Thanks to the University of Cincinnati for doing what most programs do and actual feature signing day!

Arizona Receives Verbal From QB Cameron Allerheiligen, Munchie Legaux Down To Two
The Arizona Wildcats have received a verbal commitment from Keller, Tx quarterback Cameron Allerheiligen, an unranked QB who was named District 5-5A offensive player of the year in 2009. Arizona was still actively recruiting Legaux when they had former commit Matt Brown in the fold, so I don't want anyone to read too far into this, but the Wildcats look to be out of the race. Tomorrow's decision will come down to the Buffs and the Cincinnati Bearcats and hopefully Munchie faxes in his letter of commitment first thing Wednesday morning.
Here is a little biography from scout.com:
Munchie Legaux is a dual-threat quarterback who finished his junior season with 1,800 yards passing for 30 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also added another 450 yards rushing for another 10 scores, earning Offensive District MVP honors. He says he can bench 235 pounds and squats 355.
(Soph) Played in only three games due to a broken ankle. He passed for over 350 yards and five touchdowns, and still earned 10-4A First Team All-District honors.
Partial senior (3-0) stats: 450 yards passing and nine touchdowns through the air, two more scores on the ground.
Legaux plans to major in sports medicine and reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 17 ACT.
Legaux: "I have good lower body mechanics. I’m a dual-threat. I look to pass first, but I can make plays with my feet too.
"I’m a little slim though, so I’m trying to bulk up. I think if I got a little stronger and faster I could go from being a good player to a great player."
Here are the profiles on the recruiting sites. Much more to come later:

Signing Day Looms, Lacking Excitement of Years Past
A few years ago it was the anticipation of RB Darrell Scott's national signing day decision. Last year, the Buffs were in the hunt for WR Diante Jackson (Oregon), WR Emory Blake (Auburn) and S Byron Moore (USC) before losing out in some wild recruitments. While none of those players are currently on the current Colorado squad, their is something about having your name in the ring for some big time prospects that gets the juices flowing about the future of Colorado football.
In 2010, no one really wants to discuss the future of Colorado football as many are left wondering if the administration really cares about athletics at Colorado. That's another topic but after 3 - 9, let's be honest with ourselves, we all knew 2010's recruiting class wouldn't have the hype of year's past. No one has to be a rocket scientist to figure that out. I could sugar coat this class but everyone loves rankings and it is easy to go on rivals.com and see that Colorado ranks 57th in their NCAA team rankings for this cycle. You then see the company Colorado shares: Colorado State is ahead of the Buffs at 56th. Colorado State has recruited the state of Florida well and although they are not highly rated Florida kids, they are still playing in a fertile recruiting area. In 2008, the Buffs ranked 15th in recruiting, last year they came in at 48th. But if you re-evaluated those classes, took away Darrell Scott, Ed Nuckols and Lynn Katoa after they left the program, those rankings are probably inflated.
You can go in circles talking about star rankings and potential but one thing is for sure, coaching is the true difference maker in college football. You can look at Mike Riley and his Oregon State teams to see that he doesn't have the recruiting rankings, but he has some pretty impressive wins the past few years. You can look at Nebraska and in two years, Bo Pelini has turned them into a contender. Coaching rules and there is no debate.
That being said, I do like some of the players in this recruiting class and their are a few noteworthy decisions that Buff fans should stay tuned for.

Buffs Receive Three More Verbal Commitments
The Buffs are filling up their remaining open spots for the 2010 recruiting class this weekend. After receiving a verbal commitment from FB Justin Torres earlier, Colorado also received three other commitments today. The Buffs now have 20 commitments for the 2010 class, one commitment of a 2010 prospect who will greyshirt until 2011 and a preferred walkon.

Cordary Clark
Rivals Star Rating -

Ath - Phenix City, AL - Central Phenix High
Recruiting Sites: Rivals - Scout - ESPN.com
Video: YouTube / Alabama High School
Measurables: 6'2" 220lbs 4.57 forty
Rankings: Not Rated
Offers and Other Interested Schools - UAB, Samford, Army, Western Kentucky, Tulsa and Arkansas State
Deon’s teammate, Cordary Clark-Allen, is a superb football player in his own right. Cordary shares the backfield with Deon; Cordary plays fullback in the Red Devils’ attack. He’s a big, punishing back who is a nice complement to the more refined running style of his teammate. Cordary stands 6’2" and weighs 220. He’s a disciplined football player who knows his assignments and how to execute. And when he gets the ball, which happens around 18 times per game, he knows exactly what to do with it.
Cordary’s biggest game came against Enterprise in the second game of the season. It was a big region contest, and Cordary rushed for over 100 yards and scored three touchdowns in the 41-21 victory.
Cordary’s work ethic, size, speed and willingness to do whatever his team needs has attracted the attention of several colleges. He’s had interest from Alabama State, Troy, Georgia Tech and Middle Tennessee. He’s biding his time before making a decision, but he knows he will play college football in the future. It’s always been a goal of his, one that he realized he could achieve when he was in the tenth grade — his first year as a starter for Central. "I had the size to start as a sophomore. I played pretty well, and the coaches started telling me they thought I could play in college. That motivated me to work even harder," he says.
Getting into college won’t be a problem once he decides where it is he would like to go. Cordary is an A/B student, and he would like to study psychology or sports medicine when he goes to college. He’s taken the ACT and is college eligible. That always makes things much easier during the recruiting process.

Colorado Picks Up 19th Verbal in California RB/FB Justin Torres

Justin Torres
Rivals Star Rating - NR
FB/RB - La Mirada, California - La Mirada High School
Recruiting Sites: Rivals - Scout - ESPN.com
Video: YouTube
Measurables: 6'1" 230lbs 4.66 forty
Rankings: Not Rated
Offers and Other Interested Schools - no other offers, he was a late arriver to the recruiting scene but has received interest from San Diego State, Wyoming and UCLA according to scout.com.
Commentary: Colorado received it's 19th verbal today, according to the Scout.com player page in RB/FB Justin Torres from La Mirada, California. Torres was coached in high school by former Buff quarterback Mike Moschetti. At La Mirada High, Justin was named Suburban League MVP and CIF Division Player of the Year. Had 104 carries for 827 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior. He also played defense, totaling 79 tackles.
Justin was the best player on the La Mirada team who was the champion of the C.I.F. Southern Section in 2009. As you can see from the video below, Torres is a big kid who runs with some anger. The Buffs could use a fullback/H-back and Torres fits that mold. Colorado graduated their only FB on last year's roster in Jake Behrens. Torres shows some good wheels and knows how to hit the hole.
Torres' only known offer was from the University of Colorado. Welcome to the Buffs!
