Reese scores 16 as Colorado rolls to 10-0
A lackluster beginning turned into a dominant showing by the 25th ranked University of Colorado women's basketball team, as the Buffs took care of Utah Valley, 81-45.
"I think we did pretty well tonight," said head coach Linda Lappe. "We did some nice things in spurts both offensively and defensively. We played together very well and hit the open players on the offensive side. We had a lot of players score and I liked out energy on the defensive side of things."
Sophomore forward Jen Reese paced CU with a career high 16 points. Chucky Jeffery, Brittany Wilson and Arielle Roberson all finished in double figures, with 12, 11 and 10, respectively.
Utah Valley failed to score until over four minutes into the game. However, the Wolverines clawed their way back to within three with just over nine minutes remaining in the first half, as two Ashley Klemz free throws cut the score to 14-11.
From that point, CU would regroup, closing the half on a 23-3 run, as the Buffs entered the locker room ahead by a 37-14 tally.
Lappe used the second half to provide valuable minutes for freshmen Jamee Swan and Kyleesha Weston. Both Swan and Weston finished with eight points apiece and over 20 minutes of playing time.
The Buffs will take the next three days off for Christmas, returning on December 26th. Colorado will return to game action against New Mexico next Saturday, December 29th, in the back end of a doubleheader with the CU men's squad at Coors Events Center.
