Colorado men's basketball: Boyle's Buffs ready to embark on long journey - Buffzone

Colorado men's basketball coach Tad Boyle doesn't mind his players talking about achieving big goals this season -- but only if they back their talk with the walk.

Brooks: Hopes Are High For CU Hoops As Opener Looms - CUBuffs.com - Official Athletics Web site of the University of Colorado

With three 20-win seasons in his first three years on the job at Colorado, Tad Boyle has set the bar higher than it’s ever been in Buffs basketball. Maybe even ridiculously high. Coaches never wish for less, but season No. 4 at CU might find Boyle privately wondering how best to nurture the monster he’s created.

The Rumblings of a Deranged Buffalo

In this virtual tome, I attempt to preview the season from a variety of aspects, and predict whether the team will, in fact, be able to 'go out there and prove it.'  I'll look at the roster, profiling the players, and discussing how the coaching staff could enjoy some bench depth for the first time in their tenure.  I'll look at the schedule, touching on both the non-conference and conference slates, and announcing my baseline win projection for the campaign.  I'll look at the Pac-12, noting how our rivals have developed over the offseason.  And, finally,  I'll take a brief look at the future by breaking down the incoming 2014 recruiting class.

Going up against the No. 25 team in the country adds to that. This will be the first time in CU history that it will face a ranked team in the season opener. It's the first time since the 2003-04 season that the Buffs will play the opener away from Boulder. "It's exciting," junior guard Askia Booker said. "We haven't had a game to start off this big in I don't know how long."

AllBuffs - Covering The University of Colorado Athletics - Colorado Baylor Preview

Baylor is projected to be a top tier Big -12 team, a tick below Kansas and Oklahoma St. While they did miss out on the NCAA tournament last season they were able to run the table and take home the NIT title. They also finished 29th in KenPom’s ratings and 333rd in KenPom’s "Luck" rating. (Luck rating is the deviation in winning percentage between a team’s actual record and their expected record). More on that in a minute, but a teaser – having Scott Drew as your coach basically kills any "luck" a team may have.

Colorado men's basketball: Baylor boasts talented frontcourt - Buffzone

Much of the focus on Baylor is with its frontcourt. The Bears lost two senior guards from last year's team, including standout point guard Pierre Jackson. They return some big-time players in the paint, though.

University of Colorado athletics facing $5.6 million shortfall - Buffzone

The department is already more than $21 million in debt to the university because of loans that helped pay for the costs of switching conferences and coaching buyouts. With a stadium that seats 53,613, selling only 36,000 seats for games causes big problems.

What to watch in Pac-12 Conference football: Week 11 - ESPN

Star power: Two of the nation’s elite offensive playmakers square off in Seattle when Colorado visits Washington. Buffs wide receiver Paul Richardson has 57 catches for 984 yards with eight touchdowns and continues to close in on several of Colorado’s single-season receiving marks. Washington counters with running back Bishop Sankey, who enters the week as the nation’s No. 3 rusher, averaging 145.3 yards per game. He’s coming off a career-best 241-yard performance against Cal and ranks fourth nationally with 12 rushing touchdowns.

Paul Richardson on cusp of breaking two receiving records for CU Buffs - The Denver Post

But within the game another remarkable achievement could occur. In only Game 9, Paul Richardson could set or tie the school records for most receiving yards and touchdowns in a season. The junior, fifth nationally with 123.0 receiving yards per game, already has 984 yards. That's 165 from tying Charles E. Johnson's 1992 record of 1,149. Richardson's eight touchdown receptions are only three away from Derek McCoy's 2003 mark of 11.

Colorado football: Buffs' Addison Gillam closing in on record - Buffzone

With 81 tackles, Gillam needs just five more to break the school record for tackles by a freshman. Matt Russell had 85 as a redshirt freshman in 1993. Jordan Dizon currently has the most among true freshmen, with 82 in 2004. Considering he averages 10.1 tackles per game and has had at least six in every game, there's a good chance Gillam breaks that mark Saturday when the Buffs (3-5, 0-5 Pac-12) visit Washington (5-3, 2-3).

"He did good today," coach Mike MacIntyre said following Wednesday’s practice. "We’ll find out how he feels (Thursday), but he did good today. He’ll be cleared if he keeps progressing so we’ll know more when he meets with the doctors again."

Howell blog: Numbers show Liufau getting job done for CU Buffs - Buffzone

Liufau has been on the field for 44 CU possessions. In those possessions, he has led the Buffaloes to 12 touchdowns, five field goals and 99 total points - an average of 2.25 points per drive. On 48.8 percent of his possessions, Liufau has led the Buffs into scoring position. Compare that to Wood, who got off to a good start, but then tailed off. Wood has started 68 possessions, leading the Buffs to nine TDs, nine field goals and 91 total points - 1.34 points per drive. He got the Buffs into scoring position just 30.6 percent of the time.

CU Buffs' opponent, Washington, trying to finish what it started - The Denver Post

Sarkisian recruited Liufau and said he has "really good command for a freshman kid out there. It's not easy, especially when you're playing from behind in some of the games that they've been behind in since he's been in. But he doesn't panic. He competes. He plays hard. I've been very impressed."

Colorado's MacIntyre part of college football salary explosion

Mike MacIntyre makes $2.4 million coaching football at Colorado, but the coin that means the most to him is not legal tender. He carries it in his pocket as a way of feeling close to his father, George, 75, who has multiple sclerosis and watches his son's games from a bed in Nashville. The commemorative coin is a memento of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award that his father won at Vanderbilt in 1982.

Pac-12 predictions, including Oregon Ducks-Stanford Cardinal clash - ESPN

COLORADO at WASHINGTON Gemmell: Don’t see Washington passing up the chance to get bowl eligible at home against a team still winless in conference play. Really like the fire I’ve seen from Colorado of late, but winning at Seattle will be too stiff of a test. Washington 42, Colorado 28. Miller: The Huskies are coming off a bye and they love playing at home. Expect a strong performance on both sides of the ball. Colorado has been hanging in there, but I'm not sure the Buffs won't be a little gassed heading into this one, a second-consecutive road game. Washington 45, Colorado 20.
