Chris Jenkins leaves Buffaloes basketball program

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado loses the redshirt freshman from Detroit the week of the first game.

Redshirt freshman Chris Jenkins has left the Colorado basketball program according to William Whelan of BuffStampede.com. The 6-7 forward from Detroit redshirted in his first season in Boulder and was expected to earn his first minutes with the Buffaloes when the season kicks off this Friday.

The timing is certainly not ideal but there could be a number of reasons for this move especially considering how far he is away from home. With reported struggles in some opening scrimmages combined with this news right before the 2013-14 campaign begins there seems to be a an air of doubt being cast over some super high expectations for this team, but that can all be quickly corrected with a win against Baylor on Friday night.

We'll bring you more as we get it. The press release from the University gives no reason for the move.
