The Colorado Buffaloes have added another non-conference opponent to their 2014 football schedule. The Buffs will head to the Boston area to take on new Division 1-A MAC team Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The Minutemen will be making trips to Boulder in 2015 and 2019 to fulfill the deal. The move fills out Colorado's 2014 schedule with the Colorado State game at Sports Authority Field in Denver and a home game against Hawaii.
UMASS becomes a D-1 team this season when they join the MAC(tion) conference. In 2010, they finished the season with a 6-5 record, but played Michigan down to the wire in a 42-37 loss in Ann Arbor. In 2009, the team finished with six losses but fell in a close one to Kansas State 21-17 in Manhattan so they certainly know how to get up for a game with a D-1 opponent, but that may change a bit now that they are making the jump up in competition.
This game will be a good opportunity for Buffs fans in the Northeast to get out and see Colorado play. Athletic director Mike Bohn has stated that they hope to get road games to that area as well as the Midwest/Chicago region.
The Buffaloes 2012 schedule is below. The 2013 schedule includes the Colorado State game as well as home match-ups with Fresno State and Central Arkansas.
