Want to know how Darrell Scott is doing at USF?!?

I hate Dan Hawkins...

I just watched #16 USF's first drive of the game against Pitt State and saw that not only is he starting, he looks good!

He went like 6 for 30 on the drive.  Looked big, fast and punishing!  They said he's playing at 240 pounds and has had a great year so far.  I looked it up.

His stats are:

RUSHINGCARYDSAVGTD
D. Scott 53 348 6.6 5

Yeah, but he isn't good enough to be playing in Boulder...

Did I mention that I hate Dan Hawkins?

yeah, I've been keeping a close eye on him

he had one MONSTER game against a weak opponent that inflated his stats a bit, but yeah, he’s having a good season so far. Wish things would of worked out here. Always seemed like a nice kid to me so I’m rooting for him even though he isn’t a buff any more.

Beat me to the punch-I was going to post this same thing

The situation is total mystery. Scott looks like a brand new player.

Did we play him too soon? Did we not give him enough of a chance? But when he did have his chance why did he look so slow and out of shape? Was that a result of the coaching staff? Or Scott himself? I could ask questions about this all day..

I remember watching Scott score against CSU. Then I remember the next week against Eastern Washington when he, dare I say, hit the “Y” button on a defender…it was the last good memory I had of him in a CU uniform.

UGGHHHHHHH……

Well good for Scott for getting his college career back on track. It’s just such a sad story, and I’m tired of watching us always come out on the short end of the stick (to put it nicely).

Watched the game last night

Came away rather unimpressed with Scott. Would he be a nice player to have on third and 2? Yea probably, but he looked awfully slow back there last night.

must run in the family

Seem to remember his uncle having some issues holding onto the football as well.

by NYCskibum on Sep 30, 2011 10:46 AM MDT up reply actions

Oh yeah totally...

He only had 12 carries for 76 yards for a 6.3 per carry average…

You’re right! We don’t need a player like that at CU. He’d bring our talent level down.

And he fumbled!?! Well then surely he isn’t meant to play on a team that is known for it’s superior ball control and turnover ratio.

Screw that guy!

Haha, c’mon guys get real!!! This guy would be great to have on this team! We’d have a great thunder and lightning backfield with him and speedy! You have ex-girlfriend syndrome. Just pin your hatred on Hawkins for poorly developing and managing the situation.

You think he runs for 6.3 ypc against any team on our schedule this season?

I needed a sun dial to clock between the hand off and when Scott crossed the line of scrimmage. As I said above, he would be a nice back to have on third and short, but he is carrying an extra 30lbs on him and its slowing him down. Hell he was 3rd in terms of ypc on his own team last night. Probably has more to do with the front 7 of Pitt than Scott’s ability as a back.

Have you already written his Heisman acceptance speech for him?

I seem to recall when the position was up for grabs Speedy beat out D Scott

Looks like Scott might be a different player now but I’ll take Speedy’s ability to stay healthy and love for the program over D Scott any day.

Erroneous on all counts!

My entire point was to say that Scott would help this team! If you don’t think these coaches would love a big powerful bruiser, your an idiot.

Pitt won that game handily and USF was ranked 18th. So I don’t think you can say they faced a crappy opponent and he got decent numbers due to their bad defense.

There is not ONE thing that you should look back and say that Hawkins did right. He mis-managed how Scott was used from day one and Scott ended up hating it here. I don’t blame him!

Scott and Speedy are not the same back. Why do you knuckleheads insist on comparing the two? They’re almost total opposites and that makes them perfect on a team trying to run the ball. Is Speedy faster? Yes! Would D Scott break more tackles? Yes! It’s like comparing Darren Sproles and Peyton Hillis. Don’t be stupid.

you're reading comprehension sucks

hopefully you are just a fan and not an alum. Would be quite the embarrassment.

In both my comments I clearly say he would be an asset to the Buffs.

Oh sorry

I’d hate to embarrass you. I know how CU students are held to such a high moral standard… I can tell from the puffs of smoke rising from the students section during the game.

You said he’d be good for 3rd and short… I’m saying you give a guy like that 15 – 20 touches per game. But I’m bad at comprehending…

Wow, who uses knucklehead anymore?

I would have accepted nincompoop as sort of post ironic, ironic but knucklehead? Do you have a sailor tattoo?

that's revisionist history

Sure, this version of Scott would help, but we didn’t have this version. Our version was immature, slow, constantly out of shape, and couldn’t pick up a blitz to save his life. Maybe Hawk’s coaching style wasn’t right for him (hell, it wasn’t right for a lot of guys). But Scott quit the team in the middle of the season. QUIT. At the very least, he owed it to his teammates to stick it out through the season and transfer afterwards. And Hawkins and Hagan have both said that they should’ve redshirted him.

Remember, this is a guy who picked CU over Texas, and then upon transferring to South Florida said that he always felt like he was a Florida guy at heart. He didn’t know what he was doing back then. It’s not that uncommon among teenagers. If he’s more focused and dedicated now than he was before, then good on him. But don’t act like this is the same player we saw 3 years ago. A one yard plunge and a hurdle over a guy from Eastern Washington do not a complete player or teammate make.

Look, I've already told Utah to suck it. There's no going back now.

+1

I’m no fan of Hawk, and his coaching style likely contributed to Scott’s departure, but the fact is that he quit on the Buffs. We could definitely use him this year and I wish he was still here, but I have a real problem with the way he left. He should have completed the year and then transferred – would have been a lot more respectful to his teammates and fans.

Should have been redshirted

Obviously they mis-managed the situation. Hawkins found almost every way to screw up CU and turn us into a program that gets pity from Washington State. Yeah…

There's an article about Scott in today's Denver Post

Scott himself says that he wishes he had been redshirted, and laid the blame at Hagan’s feet for making him play and telling him to live up to expectations. I would love to hear Hagan’s take on that.

by highlandsbuff on Oct 3, 2011 1:24 PM MDT up reply actions

If Scott

was playing under this new coaching staff he would have at lest gotten the ball a lot and wouldn’t have been squeezed out by the dirty hawk and his staff for the guy we have now. Little Rodney. Hawk depleted this program and now we have to watch this mess. Washington State just put up over 500 yards. Sick.
