Colorado freshman basketball recruit Damiene Cain has decided not to play for the #cubuffs. More at buffzone.com soon.
According to Ryan Thorburn of the Boulder Daily Camera, 6'7" 230 pound SF Damiene Cain has decided not to play for the Colorado Buffaloes. Cain, a three star prospect from California, was part of a heavily touted recruiting class for Tad Boyle that included PG Spencer Dinwiddie, SG Askia Booker and SF Jeremy Adams. Daminene was ranked as the 25th best strong forward in the country and 134th overall. He averaged 14.4 points and 10.9 rebounds as a senior at Harvard Westlake High School. Cain also had offers from Colorado State, Boston College, Hawaii and San Diego State.
Cali High Sports ranked Cain as the 9th best player in California.
Thorburn is reporting that Cain has decided to not play basketball at all instead just focus on academics.
"After careful consideration, I have decided not to play basketball on the collegiate level," Cain said in a release. "On a personal note, I feel it's best for me to pursue a college degree without the restrictions and demands that come with being a student-athlete. I wish to thank all the people at University of Colorado and my family for their support in this decision."

hmm
that’s very strange and unfortunate. We certainly need big bodies and just based on pictures and video he looked like someone who could help us down low right away. From what it sounds like he’s gonna stay at CU as a student I guess? I suppose I’m less upset than I would be if he was going to play ball at another school. Still a very odd move unless it’s actually health related in some way.
Sounds like it could be medically related as well.
