Monday Buff Bites - Can Jon Embree Turn Around Colorado Football?
Recapping the last week in Buffs news.
Immediate Impact or Slow Burn? Spring practice was an all-business counterpoint to Hawkins' more … inspirational approach, specifically emphasizing bottom-of-the-pyramid fundamentals like "toughness" and "intensity." That suggests a long-haul schedule that demands patience, which should be in no short supply as the Buffs move to a new conference — and, hopefully, a better foothold in the greener recruiting pastures of Southern California — with a woefully understocked talent base. If Embree successfully projects the image of a down-to-earth professional with a tangible vision, it could buy him two full rebuilding seasons before the demands for a return on investment in the standings take priority.

Steele found that Colorado has the most returning experience on the offensive side in the trenches in the Pac-12 with 97 career starts back. The Buffs do have four starters from 2010 back, but the total numbers are somewhat misleading because backups such as Blake Behrens would factor in to Steele’s totals.

I picked Colorado more because I think that's a game most will expect UW to win (though not by the margin of the Hawaii game) but will potentially be a lot more dangerous than some might think. No one figures the Buffs to be great in 2011. But as should be expected of a BCS team, there's some good front-line talent there (RB Rodney Stewart might have had the quietest 1,318-yard season in the nation a year ago, LB Jon Major could be one of the best in the conference, to name two). And who knows how the Buffs will respond to new coach Jon Embree? Maybe there's a lot more there than was apparent the last year or so as the team played under the seemingly constant cloud of a pending coaching change (or maybe there's not, who knows right now?)

Boulder is one of the eight sites Steeg already has visited. There were no major red flags that came up in evaluating Folsom Field and Boulder's ability to host the game. "Each one has got a different set of circumstances, different things that make them tick," Steeg said. "You kind of learn every step along the way. For me, it's been great because you learn so many different ways to do things other than the standard way it's done in the NFL."

I really hope so
I will say I am excited and confident. I think the biggest thing he brings is confidence and attitude. Recruiting is a very important factor he brings, but Dorrell had Bienemy and Embree at UCLA and that team didn’t do too well.
I hope he can bring back the style and attitude we had when we were a top flight football program in the late 80’s and 90’s. If we lose games, then we lose. However, I think this team will be playing hard every game. That kind of attitude ultimately can bring success when combined with good recruiting and a solid system.
Go Buffs
Dorrell's last team with Embree and Bieniemy won 10 games
Look, I've already told Utah to suck it. There's no going back now.
they were also the best recruiting staff in the country

I think Embree can do it
Yes they won 10 games and had 6 or 7 wins each year, but I think we are hoping for better than that. I BELIEVE in Embree and this program. I guess my biggest thing is the mindset that Embree will bring. I think its going to take a little time but I don’t doubt that they will get better.
On a side note, I love seeing comments from all over about how recruits don’t want to come here. I think that s funny. More often than not recruits talk about how it was much better than their perception. Perception is reality of course. I also like how there are a lot of schools who seem to think that football started in the past couple of years when their teams got good and forget the teams that have had great seasons throughout history.
CU can come back.
My biggest thing for Embree an company is this team needs to be competiive
This BS of get our ass whipped on the road and the team basically giving up has to end, if we lose and we play hard and smart through the entire game, then I know Embree and the staff are getting through, I understand we don’t have the talent to compete for a BCS bowl right now, but we do have enough talent to at least compete in games and have a shot at a bowl game. I think the biggest improvement will be that we have a solid offensive philosphy of running the rock and be smart with our passes. We do that, we will be in more games and should lead to better recruits if they know that we have an offense and defense that can compete.
