Buffaloes Land Another Defensive End, Pick Up Verbal From Kisima Jagne

The Buffaloes are making a point to recruit the heck out of a position of need. According to multiple sources, the Buffs have picked up their third defensive end commitment in just over two weeks with the verbal from Chandler, Arizona workhorse Kisima Jagne. Jagne is another very interesting pick-up for this staff and according to recruiting rankings, has the potential to be one of the best pick-ups yet.

Welcome aboard Kisima!

Kisima Jagne

Position: Defensive End
Measurables: 6-5/235
40 Yard Dash: 4.5 seconds
High School: Chandler (Chandler,AZ) HS

Rankings
:
- Rivals: 3-star, 26th ranked DE, 5.7
- 247Sports: 3-star, 33th ranked DE, 88
- Scout: 3-star, 49th ranked DE
- ESPN: 3-star, 78th ranked DE, 78

Other Schools of Interest: Arkansas, Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Washington, Washington State, Purdue

Status: Verbal to Colorado

Notes: From Rivals ($):
"Since the talent level isn't there yet Jagne thinks that means he could get on the field early and that's a big selling point.

"That's not a big deal," Jagne said of Colorado's record. "I talked to the coaches and they told me why they're struggling and that they're trying to rebuild something special.

"I might be able to get a chance to play early. They don't have too many defensive ends so I'll have a chance to go in and do something as a freshman."

Gotta love what these coaches are doing to inject some SIZE!

Embo and staff must have made the same observation many of us did. I noticed it while attending a stampede on a Friday night. Our Buffs were too small to compete with the elite competition. Oregon, USC and OSU manhandled our front 4 like they were playing against tackling dummies!

I’m so glad that this staff gets it! They are attacking area’s of need and bringing in the much needed size to both the OL and front 4 of the Defense.

I’ve got a stat that will surprise you!

This years starting front 4:
LDE Pericak – 6’4, 285
NT Cunningham – 6’1, 285
RDE Goldberg/Diribe – 6’1, 245 & 6’3, 240
JACK – Hartigan – 6’1, 230

Average: 6’2, 257

These are Hawkins’ guys. They would have been fine for the WAC or Mountain West. NOT the BIG12 or PAC12! Go coach intramurals, brother.

Embree’s top 4 ranked front 4 incoming freshman:
DT Henington – 6’3, 265
DT Solis – 6’3, 287
DE Jagne – 6’5, 235
DE Wilson – 6’3, 240
(Also Stuart – 6’4, 230)

Average: 6’3.5, 256

They’re only going to get bigger and stronger as Blacken works on them! Of course we’ll need to see these kids produce on the field, but this is a great sign! They will also pack on a lot of muscle and size once strength coach Blacken gets his hands on them!

Can’t wait to see this team grow!

Oops... Didn't really check that last paragraph..

BTW… Our OL averaged 6’5, 292.5 this year.

The two signee’s this year are:
Irwin – 6’5, 289
Kough – 6’5, 270

They’ll add size and I’d expect our OL to average 300+ in the next few years. They may get JUCO G/T Ceachir (6’5, 300)

Not seeing the difference . . .

I don’t see the size difference between the two groups of defensive players. If the Buffs are playing a 3-4 type defense, then an end at 230-240lbs is not going to work. If they are running a 4-3 then that size is fine. I went to a clinic that coach Brown spoke at, and I seem to recall him talking about a running a modified 3-4 (which is more like a 5-2). In that case ends at 235-240 probably works, so long as you have outside backers around that same size.

In my opinion the difference between hawk guys and our current recruits is we are getting more DI ready to play athletes and less hope you can evolve into DI types (which was the hawk diamond in the rough recruiting philosphy).

As a final thought, if I remember correctly Clay Matthews Jr. arrived on campus at USC at 6’1" and about 180 lbs. Of course he had NFL pedigree and ended up being 6’3" 230lbs (he only had one DI offer – Idaho). My point is it is ok to shoot for the moon on one or two guys in a class, but generally teams have success by choosing from the mainstream and hoping that 50-70% of those guys turn out to be players. It looks like this is what we are doing now, as evidenced by the fact that the guys we are getting typically have multiple BCS offers, which should bode well for us in the near future!!

My point was that

The incoming freshman are taller and average the same weight as this years 1st team front 4. It shows how much of a difference there will be in 4 years when these 18 year olds are seniors.

Looking at a depth chart now, you’ll see 3 down lineman and I also counted the JACK backer as one of the 4 since that is basically who is on strongside and rushing at almost all times.

Out of the 2012 recruits, I could have put them in the same positions as current players. NT Solis, LDE Henington, RDE Wilson and JACK Jagne.

It doesn’t matter what scheme a team runs. Unless they have the bulk and strength to match up with the elite programs up front, they’ll have no chance. But CU is doing the right things now to get to where they need to be.

I remember you mentioning your surprise after the Stampede down Pearl

Because i had notice the same thing a couple games befor that and even my Non-football wife said they look small.

Agree, i like the size coming in this year.

GIVE UP- At some point, hanging in there just makes you look like an even bigger loser.

Chandler is another good school to get hooks into as well!

They got a UofA commit in 4star OL Hemmila

4star Javon Williams is a beast at WR!

3star ATH Perkins is a UCLA commit

Maybe we can get a couple more of these guys!

winning programs

Another thing I have noticed is we seem to be honing in on winning high school programs. having guys in the program that have an expectation of winning, and a background of winning, will hopefully help change the losing culture that has overtaken the program over the last 5-8 years.

From the middle of the season when coach Embree was getting upset after losses I suspect that is what he was talking about, losing games, regardless of whether we were good enough to win or not, and after losing just being ok with it . . .

Bottom line, we are already looking at more talent in this class than nearly any of the hawk classes, and I expect that trend to continue upward. Bieniemy said from the get go that Buffs would track down programs directly in front of us, rather than those at the top. So we are going after Arizona, Arizona St., UCLA, Wash St. and I think we are looking good on a recruiting front against those schools right now.

Oh dear LORD

Please let Javon Williams take a look at CU. Or at least keep him out of the PAC12.
