Utah

So, I'm one of the people who has been saying "this isn't a rivalry and won't be for a long time...", but I've got to tell you... I think it might not take all that long.  I've been monitoring Block U since yesterday's win and I have rapidly come to hate the whiners that make up their fan base.  It isn't shocking, considering they shared a conference, but Utah's fans remind me of CSU's fans.  They have an inferiority complex, whine when they get beat and, frankly, have a WAY over-sized sense of self worth.

It makes me happy to read how terrible our team is, how we are bottom feeders, the worst team in the PAC and at least 5-years behind Utah's program.  I hope everyone in the conference continues to underestimate us going in to next year.  It usually takes 3 years to turn a program around because you have to cycle out the old coach's players before the new coach's system can fully be implemented.  Well, we should be able to shorten that time frame because of how Senior heavy our team was.  Embree's recruits will hold a very large number of the starting spots next year and, while we will still be young, I expect we will build off the momentum we developed toward the end of the season.  Further Bienemy now has a full season of play calling under his belt and we've now had a chance to study all of the PAC teams in detail.  Frankly, my biggest concern heading into next year is QB and we have potential for a ton of upside there.

Here's to beating Utah again in 2012 ahd proving that, like CSU, they truly are our little brother.  Hopefully a rivalry is born!

P.S. I love that USC is smoking UCLA right now.  I can't wait for Oregon to blow out UCLA as well and then for Neuheisel to get fired thereafter.

Its been pretty hilarious looking at the rage on Block U

They seem furious. Although having gone to the game, I kinda doubt the majority of the fanbase cares at all. I was shocked at how the Utes fans acted after the game, all of them seemed rather indifferent that their team lost. I would love to start a sweet rivalry with them, but I get the sense they are just one big bandwagon team.

On top of that, that was possibly one of the worst game day environments I have seen at the college level. Hardly any tailgating around the game, lackadaisical fans, and a campus that looked an hour before game time like nothing was happening. Makes you really appreciate how awesome Boulder is on gameday. So glad im out of that state and back in CO. That water they call beer was wearing on me.

I’ve never been for a game but I travel to Salt Lake quite regularly and get that sense of the school in general. I’ve been told it’s more heavily a commuter campus than most other D-1 schools. Also, try Uinta. I seem to recall them having some acceptable beer.

my favorite rebuttal

“Well you’re 3-10.” Yeah, and we’re 1-0 against you. Pointing out that we’re bad doesn’t exactly make you look good when you lose to us.

Look, I've already told Utah to suck it. There's no going back now.

most of them have been pretty ok

There are a couple that are pretty much delusional. I posted in a comment on our site the other day that one of them called us their little brother. that’s a little off. We have played in the Big8/Big12 up til this year from the late 40’s. They have not yet they act like they have the tradition of Nebraska. Nebraska fans had a legit reason to be arrogant.

They remind of K-state fans who believe that college football started in 1989. K-state at least played in a tough league and played tough conference teams every year. They earned respect. Utah has x amount of years of winning seasons and bowl games but they played in a conference that had one or two other good teams depending on the year. To their credit they won big games when thy played them, but now they are going to play in a conference where even the worst teams are better than most of the teams in their old conference. They now have nine big games against BCS teams in conference play. Meaning that those nine teams are ALL capable of beating them. See Friday. See Iowa State beating OK. Like I said its seemed like only a couple people. Most of them have been really cool.

They have alot to be proud of and they can compete in this league, but they have to get faster and better just like we do.

Just don’t act like you are the greatest thing ever. CU has had a ton of success. We are down right now. Things go in cycles.

I like Utah. We aren’t rivals. Maybe someday, but we aren’t. They were even saying how easy it will be to come in here next year to win. I hope for their sake that whittingham is not as naive as some of their fans

It took all of us working together to fail

Exactly....

Welcome to a real conference…. Maybe someday Boise State will too.

Problem is there is always a team-de-jour out of the WAC, MWAC, CUSA that goes undefeated or 1-loss, purely because the level of play is pathetic across the conference.

Really, how well would Houston be doing if they played in the PAC 12, Big 12, or SEC. “Who-ston”

GIVE UP- At some point, hanging in there just makes you look like an even bigger loser.

Recruiting a running back

is the key right now. I am less concerned about replacing Tyler than I am about replacing Speedy. The coaches seem to be impressed with Wood from the practice squad. Sounds like Payne fits the mold, but we will need more bodies there. Offensive linemen will come if they see a top quarterback and running back to block for. With the 50-0 beat down last night, I am hearing that the Oregon game is Rick’s last. ASU could be making a coaching change as well. A great opportunity to poach some of their verbals. There is a lot of talent that is still on the fence. Should be a wild next two months.

I've been hearing for about 6 weeks that Rick would be fired regardless of what happened the rest of the season

WSU, too, if theirs anyone worth poaching. Weird that Embree will now be in the top half of the South in terms of seniority.

That said, I really like Tony Jones (and Josh Ford), and I’d actually flip your OL/ QB, RB scenario. I’d guess that QBs are more likely to commit if they think there will be protection, and RBs more likely to commit if they think there will be holes to run through.

Look, I've already told Utah to suck it. There's no going back now.

UCLA

just looking at the recruiting sites, I’m blown away by the quality of recruits UCLA seems to have committed. Doesn’t look like CU is after many of them, though. Really hoping we can pull Yuri Wright even though he seems to be really interested in Georgia

by Connor Shreve on Nov 27, 2011 3:18 PM MST up reply actions

I just watched Rick being inteviewed to promote the game on Friday.

He looked like a deer in headlights. UCLA has a couple of very nice verbals, we’ll see if he continues to be the ultimate survivor. I also liked what Ford and especially Jones did this year, just would like someone to batter for that tough one or two yards as well. I can also agree with your flip, players want to be in a scenario where they can be part of something successful. Will see the Windsor H.S. kid this weekend at 3A championships. I can see Wright staying farther East, hoping that Jones can still get him to take a visit to Boulder.

I have visions of how good the defensive backfield could be with one more good corner. Harrington, Henderson, Recruit, maybe Manea at safety…could really have some potential

JARED BELL

Look, I've already told Utah to suck it. There's no going back now.

by Phil Fraser on Nov 27, 2011 4:42 PM MST up reply actions

yes

You don’t have to “get redshirted,” you just have to not play. Bell played as a freshman and blew out his knee before the year. So I have no reason to believe he didn’t get to use his redshirt. If he’s healthy, he’ll be starting. I see a back 4 of:
CB: Bell
CB: Henderson
S: Polk
S: Orms

Look, I've already told Utah to suck it. There's no going back now.

just confirmed with Jered

this was his redshirt year.
