Boyle! Colorado Basketball Secures A Commitment From California Forward Xavier Johnson

According to Adam Munsterteiger of Buffstampede.com, the Colorado Buffaloes have received their second commitment in the 2012 recruiting class in two days, and this one's a big one. Xavier Johnson is a high profile forward playing for a big time team in California. He had offers from at least four other Pac-12 teams. Johnson's commitment should see the Buffaloes make a nice jump in the recruiting rankings.

Welcome aboard Xavier! Tad Boyle is officially on a roll...

Xavier Johnson

Position: Small Forward
Measurables: 6-6, 180 lbs.
High School:  Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA) HS

Rankings
:
Rivals: 4-star, 83rd in Top 150
ESPN: 4-star, 86th in Top 100

Other Schools of Interest: Offers from Arizona State, Harvard, Oregon State, UCLA, UNLV, USC. Other schools that are showing interest in him are Arizona, Cal, Georgetown, Oregon, SDSU, Stanford, Syracuse.

Status: Verbal to Colorado

Notes:
From Scout:
Johnson is a multi-talented forward who can knock down the three, create his own shot from midrange and also attack the basket. He tends to rely on his three too much, but he has a terrific stroke and in time should be a very good three-point shooter. Johnson's effort is inconsistent, but when he's focused and plays hard, there's a big difference in his performance. He's a good passer and defender when giving good effort on that end of the court.

Check out an interview and some highlights after the jump.

Top 25 Recruiting class.....?!?!?!?!

We are going to be so sick 2012. Gotta have a strong year in 2011 to keep the recruiting momentum going!

According to Scout.com

CU has never received a commit from a top 100 player. Tad just got 2 in one class!

they came post Chauncey though

post David Harrison, too

Look, I've already told Utah to suck it. There's no going back now.

I love this kid

He goes to school with my brother. I largely agree with the Scout assessment above, but he’s much more of a slasher than a shooter. As a shooter, he’s kind of like Shawn Marion was with the Suns. Here’s the video of him posterizing Austin Rivers (last year’s #1 player):

He must be smart to boot

He had an offer from Harvard.

sounds like both of them should be strong students too.

we’re definitely on our way to becomming a basketball school it appears. Not sure how I feel about that, but I’ll take it for now…

got a question:

the last week or so whenever SBnation has the full screen ads in the background (like for the coach of the year thing right now) I can only see the first two stories and nothing else (no fanposts, fanshots, links, old stories, etc.) It’s kind of annoying, is anyone else having this issue?

I have that problem on IE @ work

but I’m fine on Firefox. At work I have to go through that top bar to get to other front page posts and fan shots

yeah, I'm using IE8

no one needs to tell me that IE sucks, I know, but I have to use it too for compatibility with other software for work. It IS still the most widely used browser, it would be nice if they made their site work with it…

If you wouldn't mind...

Take a screen shot and send it to support@SBNation.com and copy me. That way I can make sure they get it fixed.

haha

I had that problem for about a week straight but about 5 minutes after I posted that it started working normally again. I’ll send that email if it happens again…

SWEET!!!

I love Tad Boyle

It took all of us working together to fail

Ooooo! I'm happy

Tad Boyle is great. He has proven to be able to coach up his team on the floor and can really recruit off of it!

Note to CU… This kind of guy doesn’t last long unless you PAY HIM!!! You have my permission to PAY DA MAN!!!

we're currently sitting at #17 in ESPN's rankings, with 1 more to add

still, unlikely to move up after some of the powerhouses start to get theirs

case in point- we're currently sitting in front of Duke and Kentucky

If Tad Boyle Can Make the Tourney This Year

which despite our young roster might not be out of the question. The Pac 12 money will definitley come in handy.

What’s the over under on how many times Tad gets named drop in relation to job openings next year(both NBA and NCAA)?

Abatemarco is in CA recruiting

I’m hoping that means Tyrone Wallace (although I’d prefer if he was trying to flip Reinhardt or York). He’s schedule for a visit on the 22nd. In other recruiting news, Butler coach Brad Stevens paid a home visit to 2014 wing Stanley Johnson from Mater Dei. So did UNLV.
