Buffs Receive Verbal from K Will Oliver
According to Chris Sailer, K Will Oliver has verbally committed to the University of Colorado. Oliver is the 13th known verbal commitment for the Buffs this cycle. Sailer, who runs one of the top kicking instruction programs in the country, has high praise for Oliver and ranks him the 12th best high school kicker in the country.
If you click around on Sailer's site, you will find competitions where Oliver fared very well including his National Kicking Event where Oliver finished fourth overall.
Kicking has long been a problem for the University of Colorado and it is good to see Embree address the situation. If Oliver signs, the Buffs will have three kickers on scholarship in Zach Grossnickle, Justin Castor and Oliver.
Here is what Sailer said about Oliver via Scout.com:
Will is a very talented kicker. He has a strong leg and makes kicks with great consistency. Also solid on kickoffs. A clutch perfomer that does his best when it counts the most. Has all the tools to be a great D1 kicker. Nice prospect.
As a 2009 junior at Harvard-Westlake in California, Oliver was 10 for 10 on extra points and 6 for 8 on fields goals, with a long of 50.

Did
Willingham de-commit from TAMU? I saw something on the Denver Post website and was curious. I haven’t seen anything elsewhere.
I believe so
Going to Michigan this weekend. I put our chances at 30%
the good thing about this year compared to last year is
we are actually in the hunt for some quality players on signing day. Last year was not exciting on signing day, this year could be different with Lucien, Parker, Willingham. Marcus Martin

And Welcome Will
Would be great to get some consistency back at the kicker position
oh, I think our kickers have been plenty consistent...

Yeah, but can he tackle???
Also, what’s with the claim of an SAT of “1980”? When did they increase the mac SAT score from 1600? Or is this “SAT” a reference to some other metric?

Technically speaking, I think it's 800 for texting

haha, my mistake
that wouldn’t surprise me. I can imagine kids turning in their essay portion written in that annoying and ignorant looking texting and twitter language everyone uses these days.
it's a crapshoot with kickers
I’m sure Goodman’s stats (and his youtube videos) were just as good or better. We all said “thank god, our kicking woes are over!” after Grossnickle and Castor signed yet Goodman was still lining up for kicks on gameday last year.
I welcome him to the Buffs and I wish him a successful career, but until he’s kicking FGs in a CU uniform on Saturdays what he did in high school is meaningless as far as I’m concerned.
Not an attack on you Buff’em, I’m just bitter ;-)
Welcome, Will
Kid looks like someone you’d want your daughter to bring home. Usually not the best quality for a football player. Unless you’re a kicker. Or Tom Brady.
Wait, did I just compare this guy to Tom Brady?
I don't understand why we didn't go hard after Connor Loftus, if we're offering a kicker
He’s better, kicks longer, kicks for a better team, in more pressure situations, and has been better in Sailor’s own camps

I would say his profile picture alone would eliminate him from any consideration

Really great article about the kicker situation
http://www.buffzone.com/ci_17221210
Embree implies that someone’s losing their scholarship- which I’m not a fan of- but otherwise I think it’s a spot on assessment of what we’ve all seen.
PS: my boy Loftus was just named all CIF in the best section in the state.
yeah, that is a good article
was it you that said a while ago that hiring a former kicker as special teams coach would be a smart idea? I tend to agree. Who knows if Grossnickle is a bad punter or maybe it was just that rugby bs that screwed him up. Riddle obviously did zero to improve our punters and kickers once they got here (probably made them worse), hopefully the new guy will be better. Good on Crosby for helping us out too.
