Redshirt Freshman RT David Bakhtiari Will Start Against Colorado State
Kyle Ringo of the BDC is reporting that David Bakhtiari will start at right tackle over Bryce Givens who is nursing an ankle injury. Ringo also notes a few other "inexperienced" players that will get some time against Colorado State. You can probably also add DE Chidera Uzo-Diribe to the list of first year players who will see time this year:
Redshirt freshman right tackle David Bakhtiari has earned the starting job with Bryce Givens sidelined with a sprained ankle much of the past two weeks. It will be Bakhtiari's first college game, a fact that probably isn't lost on CSU defensive coordinator Larry Kerr.
Redshirt freshman nickel back Parker Orms has looked solid through two months of practices dating back to spring ball. He made the most of his opportunity to learn from senior Cha'pelle Brown last year. His teammates and coaches would say Orms is probably more likely to make a big play Saturday than to give up one, but who do you suppose Fairchild would rather attack, Orms or fifth-year senior cornerbacks Jalil Brown and Jimmy Smith?
Freshman tailback Justin Torres is slated to play and figures to get the ball in short-yardage situations. Torres has earned his playing time by learning his assignments quickly and running hard. Fellow true freshman Paul Richardson has done the same at wide receiver. But they are true freshmen playing in front of 70,000 people for the first time. No one knows how they might react.

Butterflies...
Yikes, 3 true Freshman? Now I’m getting nervous….. Don’t know about anybody else, but I’m having these daytime nightmares that we have been fed another line by coaches/media just like last fall. All that “great Spring, offseason condtioning, 7 on 7, fall camp, were much better, turned the corner” talk we got last year right up to the point we got our a$$ handed to us.
Sorry for the last minute concern, but I’ll never forget falling for all that fluff last year. I hope and am cautiously optomisitc its all in my head and we roll on Saturday.
I hear ya
I have the same trepidation about the season; but I genuinely think this year is different. With the new asst. coaches and vocal leadership among the players, I’m convinced that things will be different.
Or I’m wrong, it won’t matter, and I’ll actually have time to study for my licensure exams this fall. But I don’t think I’m wrong.
Congratulations to David
and all the freshmen who will be starting and playing on Sat. Hope they all take advantage of the opportunity and have a HUGE game — we’ll need it!
Two words, BigD: Man Up!
You’re squealing like a little girl: “Ooooh, three true freshmen!” Wrongo, Nancy! Can’t you read?
First of all Bahktiari is a REDSHIRT frosh, he’s been there for two fall camps and spring ball and he’s GOOD and he’s athletic, as well as smart. He was on the verge of beating out Givens as it was.
Orms, another redshirt frosh. is a beast, all he does is hit people and play very smart. He needed a year to put on weight and learn the system. The DB coach couldn’t wait to get him on the field and all he did is Spring was lead the SG in tackles, as he frequently does in scrimmages.
As for Torres, he might handle the ball 3-5 times this week. You gonna get knots in your pink panties over maybe FIVE carries? Speedy’s still the Man!
Sheeeesh! Grow a pair , willya?
He brings up a valid point
I’ve been the first guy to boast about all the potential the Buffs have. But it really is just that: potential.
And this isn’t the first time we’ve had “potential”. There’s a chance that this season ends up much like the last one.
I don’t think it will, though. I think these guys are sick of losing and underachieving. I think we make a big jump this year. I seriously believe that anything less than 9-3 will be disappointing.

just got a random question for you (and anyone else who wants to answer it)
Let’s say we do go 9-3. That would be fantastic but it would also completely blow my mind. What happens then? Is all forgiven with Hawkins and his staff? It would be impossible to fire him after that, right? Would one good year make up for 4 years of awful coaching?
I’m not 100% sure how I would feel. I’ve never really even considered 9 or more wins as a possibility for this season. I always figured 7 wins would probably give him another year, but 9 is a totally different story. That’s a good season with a good bowl game. We would pretty much have to give him an extension then, right? Would you feel comfortable with that? I don’t think I would be. I think you would almost have to consider 9 wins a fluke at this point.

I don't know about an extension quite yet
But he definitely wouldn’t be fired if he got to nine wins.

I think you'd pretty much have to extend him
I was thinking about this after the last bit of extension kerfluffle, and the guy at CU At The Game kind of validated my thinking. First, let me say that I don’t think that Hawkins was wrong for saying an extension would help the team (morale wise). A vote of confidence for Hawkins is a vote of confidence for every single player he recruited. So I say- extend him now. Hell, extend him until 2020, for all I care. Just don’t change the buyout. CU At The Game said to exchange a zero dollar buyout for a 2 year extension. Now, no agent worth his hair gel would ever agree to something that drastic, but the point remains. Coaching contract lengths barely mean anything, from either side. Eventually either the coach leaves early and pays a penalty or a coach gets fired and the remainder of the contract bought out.

yay, Cholo is back!
Don’t take it personally BigD. I remember this dude, he showed up before the CSU game last year and was disrespectful and rude to anyone who had concerns about the team and made a point similar to yours. He thought CU was gonna win the national championship and that Hawkins was a genius.
Then he disappeared for 11.5 months after the CSU game.
Lets see how long he stays around this season.
Actually for the Buffs sake I hope he’s around a little longer, lol.

"Yay"????
“Yay”? Did you really type “yay”?
Did you kick up your heels and wave your tiny little yellow pompoms when you did it, N-sux? I’ll bet you looked cute in that little black&gold cheerleader outfit that mommy made for you, too; you know, the one you wear when typing comments here?
Think you might actually respond to the subject matter? Or is that beyond your ken?
Wow, what is it with you and fanaticizing about RR members dressed in women's clothing?
First BigD in pink panties and now this?
You want to see me talk about “the subject matter”? There are about 3000 examples that you can check out on this site if you please. I thought one post needed to be dedicated to what a massive a-hole you are. This place is full of CU fans that often times have different opinions but always conduct themselves in a mature, respectful manner. Go post on espn.com if you insist on making personal attacks in every one of your posts (and to people who support the same team you do!) Grow up.
well...
I hope by “gentlemen” you’re referring only to him. I would think that you would know by now how I conduct myself towards others on this site. I’m guessing as a manager you can do a search on his posts and see that 90% of them include attacks on other people. Personally, I would ban him if he starts up again, but that’s just my opinion.
That’s all I’ll say.
Actually, I'm excited about this news
Givens looks the part, sure. But I’m not sure I’ll ever forgive him for his double penalty last year. The personal foul and then pulling the MLB get-in-the-umpires-face move to get the unsportsmanlike conduct call. That is 100% inexcusable.
He was still letting him emotions get the best of him in fall camp occasionally.
And our RT play last year was average. I’m happy that we’ve got a new guy there. And you know what? Having Givens as the backup isn’t a terrible thing.
Also, Bakhtiari may be new, but he has GREAT feet and balance, and he looked very good mirroring pass rushers.

I can't even imagine
This team winning nine games. I’d absolutely love it, but realistically if we started 3-1 I’d be excited. When was the last time we won a road game? To win nine, we have to win at least 2 and it ain’t happening in Norman. We always play the red tough, so there’s a chance there, but I think a bowl appearance puts this team back on the map this year. Let’s just worry about the rammies first. If that doesn’t happen, this conversation is moot.
