Former Buff S Ben Burney Impresses at Colorado Pro Day
Ben Burney may have worked his way into the NFL draft this coming April. In a year that no Buffs were expected to be drafted, Burney may have found some interest from teams wanting a smart safety who can run.
At today's pro day for the University of Colorado, Burney ran a 4.38 forty and put up a 39 inch vertical.
Burney moved from cornerback to safety last year to help stabilize the position. He finished fourth on the team in tackles with 73.
Last year, LB Brad Jones was not on the NFL radar until he ran a 4.54 forty at Colorado's pro day. Jones was drafted in the seventh round by the Green Bay Packers and had a very strong rookie campaign. He played in 14 overall games, garnered 33 tackles and four sacks.
If history repeats itself, Burney might get a look in the late rounds as well.

Awesome! But what about Geer?
He put up some great stats at the combine. Any word on where he might be drafted (if at all)?
Geer had a subpar day at the combine
He had the slowest 40 time of all the participants, only put up 13 reps on the bench at 225 (dead last, next highest was 18) and the second lowest vertical jump at 33 inches.
He also struggled catching the football. I would be very surprised if he is drafted. Should be in a camp though as a rookie free agent as I think he is a better player than what the measurables put out there.

wow
I had no idea his combine stats looked like that. That bench press number is really eye opening for a tight end. Hopefully he just fell off the wagon after the season and it isn’t a reflection of the strength and conditioning program as a whole.
agreed, and I thought
Geer was one of our more physically imposing players, at least one of the guys who looked like he belonged out there

Great stats at the combine?
Define great. Geer the 40 at the same time Ndamukong Suh — a DT — ran it. 4.98. He is not getting drafted.

Awesome
Hope Burney gets a good shot, 4.38 is impressive.

Wow, ok, I guess I saw this one stat and assumed he did solid all around:
20-Yard Shuttle: Riar Geer, Colorado, second among tight ends (4.29 seconds). But with those stats and being a solid yet unspectacular TE means he will definitely not be drafted. I’m sure Burney will get a camp invite, but who would draft him with all of the knee and shoulder problems? I love the guy, but he seems like a physical liability and would be tough to justify picking him anywhere besides the 7th round.
Solid numbers for a couple of LBs
Mohler’s numbers don’t look so great, but Smart and Burtons look pretty good. I would think that they would get a FA look after the draft. Burton can really move for a big fella.
combine
c. brown was the most striking. did i hear wrong, or was he indeed only 5’7"? i have stated this before, not only was our team poorly prepared at gametime, but very slow and very weak. we were indeed bringing a knife to a gun fight, and it showed up in the final won-loss tally.

well, it's not surprising or anything
he was always listed at 5’7"
It is funny though, I was watching video of the pro day at buffzone and when the guys were bench pressing there was (I thought anyway) a young kid in a gold buffs shirt standing there watching. Only later on did a realize it was Brown. He is pretty small…

Knew he was short
They said he was fast and strong, not so. Ditto mohler. I heard he was a 4.6 guy. Smart looked ok, but he has safety size and strength… With lb speed. Burney was the only one who really did anything. Sad thing is, outside of Jimmy and solder(possibly polk), do you see anybody coming back next year that could catch a scouts eye?

Combine numbers
Measurables Are all I am talking about. Jalil could put up some good numbers. Also, I see him taking a step in his play this year(stop falling for double moves!!). Miller should show good strength but he sure looks slow on the field. Some of our recievers could get there. I was just thinking, who do we have with an impressive combo of size and speed? I see Polk as one of those guys, kasa and rippey too. They are certainly too few for a competitive big 12 squad.

Thankfully
Polk, Rippy and our best receivers are not seniors. By the time they are, they will definitely be getting some pro looks.
