What a joke
This is probably the least excited I have been about CU football in the last 10 years
Don't worry NYC....
Just think how excited you will be when…. when…. crap, I have no idea when that will happen.
No kidding
I was pretty hopeful we’d get Munchie.
sad to admit, I am more excited about the basketball program
and they haven’t won a road game in 30 some chances…
I bet we will have some good Tshirt ideas after today

It’s offical, recruiting fell apart this year. I mean this when I say it, NO DISRESPECT to the guys who are part of our 2010 Class- We’re happy to have you join our Buffs and look forward to long successful careers here. But, losing 3 commits in Munchie, Spond, and Mister Jones (even if he doesn’t qualify) at the end of the cycle hurts and all have a common reason…. The weak Program under Hawkins and his unknown status going beyomd 2010. Thanks Bohn for perpetuating the FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt), I’m sure it will all work out in the end-NOT!
2 years ago Signing Day felt like Christmas morning
This year it feels like the deadline to file income taxes.
the power of Dan Hawkins!

What are the odds we have more than 3 televised games next year?
Do we even have any clout to command TV shares at this point?
Maybe if they promote it as scrimmage games for our opponents

Toy Jones, Trea Jones
Sucks we lost Munchie, but at least we kept Tony and Trea Jones. Should (hopefully?) help to take some of the load off speedy. Hopefully Cantor takes Goodmans job as well. I’m happy we at least kept the 2 Jones RB’s
Welll this is a dissapointing signing day and the University isn't going to tell us anything official?
I think I will actually get some work done today instead of following this.

Looks official now
Our recruiting class ranking is 65 (on Rivals), worst in the Big 12, we can’t even beat Baylor, nationally we are behind Hawaii and Virginia, two powerhouses. At this rate we will be lucky if we can compete as a D-2 school. Man I am pissed.

Well now we are down to 66
Of the top 70 recruiting classes, only us and Hawaii are the only schools without at least one 4-star recruit.

Other interesting tid-bit
We are the only Big 12 school without at least a 4 star recruit. Everyone else has at least 2 – four star recruits. In the words of Helen Lovejoy
“Won’t someone please think about the children!”

But did you read??!!
That we set another record in the Fall semester for team GPA. In theory we could just have the Mensa Club at CU play football on Saturdays… We wouldn’t win many games (not that we do now), but boy would we have the highest GPA/IQ/graduation rates in Div 1 football!!!
Maybe we should join the all nerd league
Mines, MIT, Cal-Poly, Harvey Mudd, Northwestern, Vandy, Virginia Tech, of wait, we would get our ass kicked in that league too.

Coping option
I wonder if it is possible to take a mental health day in response to this morning’s disapointment. My co-workers take them because of their kids, why can’t I take one because of CU football? I’ll be at the Diamond at noon if anyone wants to join me. This will also help prep for the CU game tonight against KU.
This is the worst signing day ever.

Not surprised
Frankly, I am not at all surprised with this class. If you were a “4 star” athlete (meaning you probably have at least 5 offers from good schools) would you realistically pick CU considering how bad we have been as of late, the job uncertainty around Hawkins, the departure of a recent 5 star recruit (D.Scott), and most importantly, having Dan “I have never met an excuse I didn’t like” Hawkins as your coach?
I wouldn’t.
One mediocre recruiting class isn’t going to make or break this program. There is still some talent in this years class, and ranking high school kids is a very difficult and arbitrary process. If we have a decent to good season (and thats a HUUUUUUGE IF), we should have a solid class next year. If not, we’ll have a new coach.
Ironic that Hawkins says the program was burned down when he came here
When it seems like he’s the done the deed himself. We have a lot of guys returning next year, so hopefully we can squeak out 6 wins and move forward…..

A little perspective people...
Not a great class by the numbers, but let’s not get carried away. Remember how Darrell Scott was a 5 star recruit while Rodney Stewart was, what, a 2-star? Of course we would like to be at the top of the rankings, but they don’t really mean THAT much. There looks to be some talent here and the coaching staff added depth at positions of need… regardless of whether some guy named Munchie wants to be here or Cincinatti, Ohio.
At very least
We got ourselves a passable kicker

Dizon was a 2 star RB recruit
I’d rather have a class full of overachievers than a bunch of 4 and 5 star kids not living up to their potential. The bigger issue is that the 4 and 5 star kids usually have more options for where to go. And for the first time since Hawkins has been here, none of them are choosing CU.

Let's See
50% chance of a 4 or 5 star recruit making an impact or a 10% chance of a 2 star recruit making an impact. I’ll take the highly rated kids and not use the ridiculous “I’d rather have kids that WANT to be Buffs” line.
In other news, Buffs G Alec Burks will not play tonight vs. Kansas

I know that...
this is a hard class for all of us to look at. No 4* (unless you count Clemons) but go look at schools like Oregon State and Iowa, they are not pulling in high level prospects, but they are still competitive every year because they know how to develop talent. Unfortunately for CU, we have not had a good coach who can develop that talent.
Maybe in a year or two when we have a new coach, we will be able to groom our talent and make them into actual players. CU has the talent, we just have not developed it the past 4 years.

Bingo
Unfortunately for CU, we have not had a good coach who can develop that talent.
The Ralphie Report - Covering the Colorado Buffaloes on SBNation - http://www.ralphiereport.com/
Exactly.........
Very well stated…….I believe we’ve got the talent…..maybe not to win 10 games and go to a BCS Bowl consistently………..but certainly to win 7 or 8 games per year and go to bowl games every year. The problem is, Hawkins just has not shown that he can get the most out of the kids that he does get. I know many of you guys have already given up on Hawk, and you’ll probably turn out to be correct. But we’ve got him for this year…………it’s his last chance to prove that he can coach the talent that he’s got. If we don’t win 6-7 games this year (and that will be tough to do with our schedule in 2010), then he’s got to go.
geh.....This is a bit depressing

One positive note for this class
According to Rivals, we have 7 guys with sub-4.6 40 times. That’s the most we’ve had since the 2008 class that was ranked 15th nationally, which also had 7.
Great observation. We need some speed.

NM motto: There is Nothing “New” about it
The place is a sewer.
Lots of mediocre teams in ESPNs top 25 rankings
Auburn #4
Florida State #6
South Carolina #18
Washington #22
North Carolina #25
That doesn’t even take into account the NDs and UCLAs who still suck but always find themselves at the top.
this may be a reapeat from a comment above...
as I haven’t read the comments (yet), but I thought the Daily Camera had a nice article on recruiting rankings and the correlation to winning, for those who are interested…
