Arizona Receives Verbal From QB Cameron Allerheiligen, Munchie Legaux Down To Two

The Arizona Wildcats have received a verbal commitment from Keller, Tx quarterback Cameron Allerheiligen, an unranked QB who was named District 5-5A offensive player of the year in 2009. Arizona was still actively recruiting Legaux when they had former commit Matt Brown in the fold, so I don't want anyone to read too far into this, but the Wildcats look to be out of the race. Tomorrow's decision will come down to the Buffs and the Cincinnati Bearcats and hopefully Munchie faxes in his letter of commitment first thing Wednesday morning.

Here is a little biography from scout.com:

Munchie Legaux is a dual-threat quarterback who finished his junior season with 1,800 yards passing for 30 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also added another 450 yards rushing for another 10 scores, earning Offensive District MVP honors. He says he can bench 235 pounds and squats 355.

(Soph) Played in only three games due to a broken ankle. He passed for over 350 yards and five touchdowns, and still earned 10-4A First Team All-District honors.

Partial senior (3-0) stats: 450 yards passing and nine touchdowns through the air, two more scores on the ground.

Legaux plans to major in sports medicine and reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 17 ACT.

Legaux: "I have good lower body mechanics. I’m a dual-threat. I look to pass first, but I can make plays with my feet too.

"I’m a little slim though, so I’m trying to bulk up. I think if I got a little stronger and faster I could go from being a good player to a great player."

Here are the profiles on the recruiting sites. Much more to come later:

Man, I hope he stays committed

Nothing will make me happy with this class, but holding onto Munchie will at least make it bearable for me. If he leaves I am going to be very pissed off.

I am sure he would say how much HS football in Louianna sucks and we should concentrate

on states like Texas, California, and Florida, since that is the only place any decent HS football players come from.

man...

when some cat named “munchie” is on the verge of not signing here, but rather going to cincinnati, coupled with two four star defections of Spond and Jones, i can only hope that we get the surprise of our lives when this recruiting class hits the field in the summer. i must confess, i am new to this Buffs thing….i have been a Michigan Victor’s Club member for 10 years, yet never a student at UM (a personal thing)….now, as an incoming graduate student at CU, i am thrilled to have this place as my own. let’s hope this thing gets righted. quick. that $50 million booster power play looks pretty good right about now…

Low expectations here

Not expecting him to sign with us. As has happened in the past with high school teamates, the more heralded one will wait until his buddy signs with us, then announce he’s signing elsewhere. Hope I’m wrong. Cincy seems to run the offense suited for him, with 3 juniors to compete with, one a heralded transfer from Notre Dame. Do we have the same to offer?

Anyway, I’ll be checking a bazillion times to see what the outcome is. Would be nice to start bringing in a lot of LA kids again. Just re-watched the 1994 CU UT game recently, take a look at the LA players in the D lineup go along with Kordell….

DE-L – Shannon Clavelle #92 (6’3 275) (Jr) New Orleans, La
NT – Kerry Hicks #94 (6’6 260) (Jr) Salt Lake City, Utah
DE-R – Darius Holland #93 (6’5 285) (Sr) Las Cruces, N.M.

OLB-L M Phillips #97 (6’3 205) (Fr) Marrero, La
MLB-L Ted Johnson #46 (6’4 240) (Sr) Carlsbad, Calif
MLB-R Matt Russell #16 (6’2 235) (So) Fairview Heights, Ill
OLB-R Greg Jones #59 (6’5 230) (So) Denver, Colo

SS – D Leomiti #3 (6’0 195) (Jr) Pavaiai, American Samoa
FS – Steve Rosga #15/14 (6’1 205) (So) Roseville, Minn.

CB-L Chris Hudson #47 (5’11 195) (Sr) Houston, Texas
CB-R Dalton Simmons #7 (6’0 185) (Jr) Marrero, La

I know it’s because we had to get real creative, but it’s nice to see commits from all over the country this year. Hope they stick with the team.

According to who?

CU’s staff? They have led us down this path before. I dont even think they are being deceiving but after seeing kids rejected year after year I don’t take their word with any certainty.

by Rbento on Feb 2, 2010 3:26 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

According to everything that's ever been written about him

Are we supposed to assume they won’t qualify until final grades come in?

I hear you on kids getting rejected for grades year after year, but Munchie does not appear to be a borderline guy grades-wise.

by BuffsCrock on Feb 2, 2010 3:34 PM MST up reply actions

I am only going off what I have seen...

and you may know quite a bit more than I do regarding his academic standing. I do know CU will probably consider his overall GPA, opposed to “core,” and a 17 ACT is not helping.

I’m just being the pessimist CU football has made me. That said, I really really hope we see him at Folsom.

by Rbento on Feb 2, 2010 3:46 PM MST via mobile up reply actions

I think there is a bit of a misconception out there

A lot of the guys we missed out on over the last few years were not because they couldn’t academically qualify for CU but rather they couldn’t qualify to any NCAA DI program.

by NYCskibum on Feb 2, 2010 3:51 PM MST up reply actions

Which makes it even worse

I mean my god- wasting time and resources on somebody that can’t even get into ANY DI school?? Totally ridiculous and indicative of competence, or in this case, the lack thereof.

We need to create a CU football pessimist drinking game...

I’ve a few good ideas in mind…

Hmmmm... This could lead to alcohol poisioning

Since we are all jaded here, its safe to say every reference to recruiting, coaching, admissions, Bohn, Hawkins, offense, defense, kicking game, attrition, win/loss record, 2009, 2010, and Nebraska would qualify as pessimism (and therefore we drink)

Shouldn’t be much of a change since I want to drink whenever I think about those things anyway…..

Munchie

I really hope we get him. Though I do think there is talent in this class, without Munchie you’d have to classify it as pretty mediocre in my opinion. But what can you expect? Until we start getting wins, recruiting will always be a struggle. Qualifying academically is always a concern, but IF Hawk is going after high qualify kids, it shouldn’t be too big of a concern every year (in theory).

Just saw there is rumors Jones may be decomitting

If we fail to land Jones and Munchie, this class will offically be considered pathetic.

Calm down. We're fine.

I haven’t heard of this many people shi++ing their pants since the ATO house gave their pledges ex-lax back in 1985.

Close your computer for the night.

Pour yourself a cocktail.

Wake up tomorrow and see what happens.

Go Buffs.

that would be pretty pathetic

to lose a guy with no other scholarship offers. So, he’s gonna blow off a scholarship with a Big 12 school to walk-on at Maine? He better sign!

I’m a little nervous about this Munchie meeting the academic standards, my daughter was just accepted into CU and it took much more than a 17 ACT and 3.0 GPA.

by cubound2010 on Feb 2, 2010 7:08 PM MST reply actions

is your daughter a football player?

not exactly an apples to apples comparison my friend.

by nebraskasux on Feb 2, 2010 7:57 PM MST up reply actions

Agreed...

but they still have to make it once they are accepted.

by cubound2010 on Feb 2, 2010 8:13 PM MST up reply actions

well...

“for a football player” a 3.0 and 17 ACT aren’t all that bad. Athletes can get a lot of tutoring and special help that “normal” students don’t get. Of course I don’t know anything about Munchie other than what I’ve read here but I see no reason to think that he would fail at CU. I’m sure he’ll be fine. I can also promise you he won’t be majoring in pre-med or kinesiology (like he is supposedly interested in). I’m sure he’ll find he is much more interested in an exciting field like communications when he arrives in Boulder :-)

By the way...

I’ve followed this board for a little less than a year, but just now participated. I always appreciate your commentary, it is always well written and thought out.

Cheers.

Congrats to your daughter!

Boulder is an excellent college town. She will learn a ton and have a blast.

by Buff-in-IL on Feb 2, 2010 8:11 PM MST up reply actions

Thanks!

We love the town and college…we have lots of legacy that attended…my grandparents taught there, my mother graduated from CU and my brother got his MBA from CU (we live in Indiana).
The college experience is not only about academics, but also the athletics. We are hoping for some improved football so we can attend some good games! We will always support our buffs…my family has held the current season tickets we have for 20 years….and when my grandparents taught there they had them too.
