Time to Step Up
Alright everyone. I've said it. You've said it. I've seen hundreds (I may be exagerating a bit) of commenters on this site say it. It's time to step up and send in a donation (big or small) to the Foundation.
The Administration finally listened to the fan base and took action. I, for one, told the Foundation a year and a half ago that I wouldn't donate to the University until they replaced the head coach. They have finally taken the necessary step and now it is necessary that we follow through on our promisies. When you have a minute go out to the Foundation website and make a donation. Like I said, big or small. Any amount sends a message that you support the steps taken this morning and look forward to a brighter future.
Just my two cents.

Thanks.
I didn’t want to include it because I didn’t want to look too much like a shil… but it belongs in here.
Thanks again
We are all in this together
It going to take coaches, students, players, alumni and fans to get this thing turned around. Just think of your donations as an investment in the reputation of both the football program and the University as a whole.

Thanks...
for the reminder/encouragement to donate now, when the program needs it the most. I made my donation after reading your post. I included a request in the donation’s comment section that it should be used for the “Athletic Department’s efforts in hiring a new football coach”. I hope that my comment/request has some kind of binding effect but I doubt it considering that it was a gift, there is a lack of consideration, and there is no contract. I’m sure it will go to good use though.
If you truly care about the programs future, please give what you can too!

Thanks for the link to donate. I am donating to this great cause and the awesome University.
Donations
I donate every year win or lose just to say thanks for my education, an incredible four and a half years and meeting many of my best friends. Still, your correct, and I will add a little extra this year.

The number of people donating
rather than the amount donated is what will tell those in charge how many of us approve of the most recent decision. Even if you can only do 20, 50, or 100 bucks, it will count as a “vote” of confidence.
The True Test
We are about to find out how dedicated the administration is to athletics / football and winning in a few weeks time. If they go cheap with an up and comer (Sumlin, Calhoun) they aren’t as dedicated to winning as the fans. However, if they hire a big name (Belotti, Venables) it will be a sure sign they want to right the ship.
I think donations are a big part of every program and are needed at CU, but I would wait and see who they actually hire before donating a substantial amount of meny. Sort of like handing $30 to the homeless guy who has a sign about starving wife and kids – only to watch him head straight for the liqour store.
We are about to find out how dedicated the fanbase is to athletics / football and winning in a few weeks time.
The fanbase and alumni community have to take some responsibility for the results of the program. Everyone needs to be on board together to make this engine run smoothly. If the donor support was there then Hawk probably would have been fired last year and we could have avoided this mess but the athletic department is still at the mercy of the University and State of Colorado for funding. We all as fans need to be invested in the program to turn this thing around We need to show the best coaching candidates what is possible at Colorado. Now its time for everyone to grab a bucket and start bailing rather than standing around watching and waiting for the boat to sink.
I agree with both of you.
Look, if you are donating big bucks, you have the leverage/pull to get a face to face meeting with Bohn/Distefano and outline your requirements/expectations for making that donation. More power to you and I hope to be in this camp one day.
However, if your donation is not large enough to buy that kind of pull then send it (or something, even of just a fraction of what you ultimately want to send) in now as a vote of confidence/support of what they are doing.
At the end of the day the people vote with their checkbooks. Bohn’s comments yesterday during the press conference about the fact that they sold 800 tickets to this weekends game since the Hawk news was announced is proof that they are paying attention to that scorecard.
then expect to be disappointed
I’m not quite sure how you’d expect CU to pay Mike Belotti without money, when he makes as much now as we paid Hawkins. Will he accept a season pass to Winter Park? Also, I don’t know how Venables counts as a big name, but Sumlin and Calhoun do not.
The sign they want to right the ship just happened. If you claim to support the program, “Support” should be the default setting. I’m with Buff-In-IL. He said he wouldn’t donate until Hawkins was gone. Hawkins is now gone, so he is once again donating. If the next guy gets the same results, then you stop donating again (although next time would probably involve Bohn’s ouster)

Venables
I think winning a NC and consistently producing top defenses year in and year out in a big boy conference is what seperates a big fish like Venables from a flash in the pan like Sumlin. The admin wouldn’t spend the money for Venables anyway. Other teams have tried for years to lure him away from OU without success.
I can appreciate the optimism where donations are concerned, but I am sick of the university admin blowing smoke up my ass and not holding up their end of the bargain (and no, firing Hawkins isn’t enough for me). I want to see a COMMITMENT to winning, not just be appeased at the thought of it. While money may be one issue, I believe there are deeper issues regarding the idea of “competetive” atheletics versus academics from Benson, DiStefano and the regents.
I feel if they (Benson, DiStefano and the B.O.R.) TRULY want to win, they will find the resources to make it happen.
you do realize that Sumlin was Oklahoma's OC, right?
With a much longer resume, and coaching experience in the Pac 10, Big 10, and Big 12. Venables has never coached anywhere not under Bob Stoops.
And like I said- expect to be disappointed, because unless CU recently chose to offer a degree in alchemy- there simply isn’t a way to produce revenue where none exists. We’re already in debt and we have the bare minimum number of varsity sports. We’re not going over $2 million. That much is clear. Money is not “one issue.” It’s THE issue

The "thought" of winning is all you will ever have
You are speaking as if you expect the administration to guarantee you a national championship. The “thought of winning” is all there is, that’s the only reason this stupid game is ever played in the first place. And by the way, words like “commitment” and “truly,” which imply sincerity, were shown by Sartre to be complete utter bullshit and in fact illusions of puny minds over sixty years ago.

in 06 and 07, they were co-coordinators
Now Wilson is the sole coordinator
