We have 5 first downs??

I didn’t think it was that many.

little mojo game thread here,

LETS GO BUFFS!!!

At least make this one respectable and show up to play the 2nd half

I've got that same sick feeling

That I had all last fall……. Except worse.

Agreed.

My football teams suck. At least the Avs are good….oh, wait.

Wow

No signs of live at Folsom from CU.

So much for the o-line plowing over people. I guess using the womens volleyball team as the scout team led them to a sense of overconfidence.

Something better happen quick or stick a fork in the Buffalos for this game.

Come on Buffs, turn this thing around in the second half……

Go Buffs……

Playing against our d-line

is probably the reason for the unbridled optimism.

His one real value

comes as a blocker, and he just let that guy take a run at Cody. He wasn’t running downfield, he wasn’t trying to block the guy, he just stood there.

This game has been incredibly infuriating. There was some legit optimism but Hawkins can’t get his head out of his ass. Killing the RB rotation and giving way to easily your worst RB and then leaving what might be your worst QB in there to continually kill your team. Holy shit is this frustrating.

by CrazyBuff on Sep 6, 2009 8:06 PM MDT reply actions

The problem

isn’t that the team isn’t very good. Hawkins came in with a complete dearth of talent and has to rebuild at every single position. It takes time to develop players and let a coach’s personal program really sink in and the results take time. I’ve had no problem being patient and taking some losses because it’s just part of the process.

The problem is there seems to be no rhyme or reason to why things are being done the way they are. It’s all so completely mind-boggling that you have to wonder what in all of the hell is this guy doing? When you consistently fail like this and never show any progression, then you have to question what the hell the current regime is accomplishing.

If the only game you lose is this early in the year you are actually in better shape. When you don’t want to lose is late in the season, then it can make it more difficult. Lose early and win out and you’ve got a good shot with the current conference championship game structure.

this was visible in that onside kick. it was a microcosm of our seasons under hawkins.

the onside kick deflects off one of their players, but they recover the ball. then on first down they run it to our 5 yard line.

The D looked amazing the 2nd half

but you WILL NOT win a big 12 game this yr scoring 10 pts

Hats off to CSU and Fairchild

They are clearly the better team. It’s gonna be a long, long year.

by highlandsbuff on Sep 6, 2009 8:36 PM MDT reply actions

better coached team

but I refuse to believe they have better players

by nebraskasux on Sep 6, 2009 8:38 PM MDT up reply actions

we may have more talent on paper

but it doesn’t mean a thing if they can’t show it in play

by highlandsbuff on Sep 6, 2009 8:40 PM MDT up reply actions

I Agree

CU has better players.
CSU has better coaches and gets more out of their players.
Simple as that over the last two years.

I am not tryin to talk trash as a CSU fan here so no hostility. This is a great blog even if it is of my rival team. But Dan Hawkins is not a good coach, simple as that. You have talent in your backfield for sure.

put him in and feed him the ball!!!!!!!

Our O line

has some serious growing up to do…… They were supposed to be our stregnth. I recall the words “roadgrader”, “dominate”, and “wear you down, smashmouth”

by BuffnBigD on Sep 6, 2009 8:40 PM MDT reply actions

sitting at the 25 yard line, 10 rows from the field

from that vantage point, a few observations: our boys, all of them except Goodman, were simply NOT ready to play this game. They slept through the first half, CSU controlled the line of scrimmage the entire 1st half and whenever they really needed to throughout the game. Our “vaunted” o-line was green mush, they got pushed back 2yards behind the line of scrimmage on every play, run or pass. Scott can’t pass block and, right or wrong, that seemed to be when he’d get the hook. Defense came around some in the second half, but most of that was LB and DBs stepping up. Overall, an incredibly disappointing start to an important year by an uninspired, ill prepared, poorly coached team.

This game will go down in Buff lore as one of the absolute WORST losses EVER! Somebody mentioned Montana State in the same breath and they’re right. Losing to these aggie-doofs on a nuetral field in a close game is hard enough to handle but being slapped around OUR home field, and for those of us unfortunate enough to be there it was a true butt whoopin’, watching them stomp on the CU logo . . . its DISGRACEFUL!

that way hawkins is for sure out, and we aren’t famous for a winless season (Lions cough cough)

I think this game shows that Hawk is not a big program coach. If you have better talent you shouldn’t have to keep running this gimmick offense bullshit. Even the announcers were like “WTF why aren’t they running the ball straight at them”. Every running play was some slow developing pulling guard shit. This was a carbon copy of last year’s team. We have talented RBs and no WRs so what do we do? Keep running the shotgun crap apparently. RE-tarded. This is insanity, did we even have a gameplan for this thing aside from just praying that we get a few breaks along the way? Hawk you are going to have to earn this shit you can’t just put our guys out there and hope for the best. Coach them to win. Gameplan to win. This is a game, try to win the damn thing.

Fire Hawkins

I don’t say that lightly. This game shows he’s not the guy. He’s not the man- he’s simply not. Unfortunately, this is not the guy that was responsible for Boise’s success.

The guy that WAS responsible for Boise’s success, still coaches them. I really hate to say it, but…

We hired the wrong guy out of Boise, my fellow Buff fans.

by AllBroncsallday on Sep 6, 2009 9:30 PM MDT reply actions

Rams Fan Here...

I would FIRE Hawkins. Early in the 2nd quarter you could see his panic and it played right in to Fairchilds hands. CU should have ran the ball down our throats… they were in the first half and then after 3-4 stops they gave it up completely. I hate Hawkins(BOTH) and today I can only say thanks for hiring him. CU has some talent but Hawkins couldn’t tap into it if he had a crystal ball.

there's a clear line of distinction

between a professional coach and a college coach. Your coach is good professional coach who happens to be coaching a college team. While I didn’t like him as a player, I respect him as a coach. On the other hand, our coach is a zen-master motivator who dabbles in coaching college football as a side job. Tonight the distinction became abundantly clear.

by mam2jd on Sep 7, 2009 12:09 AM MDT up reply actions

good point

Hawkins seriously needs to go get a gig as a motivational speaker or something. I’m sure he’d be great, but he doesn’t have what it takes to coach big-time college football.

by nebraskasux on Sep 7, 2009 12:21 AM MDT up reply actions

Exactly so

Mumbo freakin jumbo, yadayadayada, blahblahblah. I’m sorry to have to say this, because I used to LOVE Hawk, but he’s quite clearly full of sh*t.. Last night revealed that to the college football world.

FireCoachHawkins.com

It’s time to agree with the coach and to demand accountability. 10 wins and no excuses. We measure success by W’s, not by talk. The firecoachhawkins.com domain name is reserved and ready should this season prove it necessary. Go Buffs!

Maybe he's not the GUY, maybe he is

but I know, as I sat there tonight in disbelief at the site of my team being systematically manhandled at home by our “little brother” to the north, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the true glory days when CU was relevant on the national college football scene;when we had great teams with great players that regularly went on to the BIG SHOW in the NFL. Of course, the constant rehashing of those memories on the BUFFVISION scoreboard every chance they got, only served to clarify just how far the program has fallen. The product on the field tonight just didn’t match up to the product the Buffs used to give us. Not even close!

Which makes the Patrick Ridgell article in the Longmont Times earlier today (9/6) prior to the game all the more ironic. Where do the Buffs go from here? Guess we’ll just have to wait it out and see where it goes. Don’t snicker, here’s the link: http://www.timescall.com/sports-college/sportscollege-story.asp?ID=17944
