SB Nation 2009 All-Big 12 Preseason Team
In the spirit of media days coming up, the SBNation Big 12 bloggers got together and voted on who we think will make up the 2009 All Conference team. Like in the national media, the Colorado Buffaloes have a lot to prove to get the respect of the blogging world as no Buff was represented on the first team. In fact, five teams did not have a player named to the team as the Big 12 South took control placing 21 of the 27 players on the squad. The Buffs didn't get shut out of the voting, though. OL Ryan Miller received the most votes of any Buff, followed by RB Rodney Stewart. CB Cha'pelle Brown, TE Riar Geer, TE Patrick Devenny and FB Jake Behrens tallied recognition as well. Better than I thought considering that you couldn't vote for players that you blog about (i.e. The Ralphie Report couldn't vote for CU players).
It is hard to find flaws in this list. I do think players like CB Jimmy Smith, OL Nate Solder and OL Ryan Miller have a shot at breaking through at the end of the year. Wins in 2009 will get our Buffs more exposure.

It's reality my friend.
Remember, that the Ok schools couldnt even vote for themselves. The only ones I personally had different were the corners. You see somewhere else where you think another guy should be in?

first off, I wouldn't include a fullback at all
which seems reasonable, considering half the schools don’t use one.
I’d put in Ryan Miller (who was preseason all Big 12 last year)
I’d replace Sam Bradford with Colt McCoy.
Jamar Wall replaces Perrish Cox

Agree on Miller for Ulatoski and Wall for Cox.
Bradford/McCoy, who the heck knows…

Ook
Well, we included the fullback probably because the AP includes the fullback.
So with Ryan Miller, who are you going to take off to make room for him?
At QB give me an effing break. Those two are a toss up. You’re going to say this list isn’t legit because we have the Heisman winner at #1 instead of the runner up? Come on
With Cox, he has the Big 12 record with kickoffs returned for TDs. He’s likely going to be the all time return record holder. He had slightly less tackles than Wall but made some big plays that stick in my mind. I know he had a long int for a TD and a big FG Block. Arguably he should’ve been voted as a KR instead of CB, but I look at the whole picture.
You can argue for Wall, but you can’t say the list isn’t legit because it has Cox on it.
So out of the 27 spots you have gripes about 3 or 4 of the picks? I wouldn’t call that a fail..

oh Jesus Christ
You’re taking this way more seriously than I am. I don’t have gripes about just 3 or 4 picks. I made a passing comment about the fact that over half of the team came from 1 state. It had just as much to do with the fact that there’s such a disparity among the talent levels in the league as it did about the stupid list. Sorry to disparage your meaningful and important internet poll. I hereby apologize to the list, and anyone involved in the creation of the list. I’m just grateful that you allowed it to be seen by the public. If I made my own list, there would be several other changes. First, the defense would consist of Sean Weatherspoon and 10 clones of Sean Weatherspoon.

I was just responding to
“FAIL all over your face”
I don’t come on this blog often, but that just comes across strong to me. You have a right to have your opinions. It’s just that when 2 top 10 teams come from the same state, they are going to dominate preseason lists such as this.
It would’ve been interesting had there been a second team, as I think people’s 3rd and 4th choices for certain positions varied.
I’m not mad or anything. I just know I spent a handful of hours researching all of the players and was pretty conflicted with some picks. Obviously this isn’t life or death or anything like that.

Are you kidding?
Oklahoma is preseason #2 and OSU is preseason #9. Oklahoma has the best defense in the Nation, OSU has some of the best skill positions in the Nation, and Oklahoma has Bradford, Clapp, etc. back.
Instead of making bold statements like that, who would you put at certain positions above the players for Oklahoma?

OU has the best defense in the Nation?
That would be quite a change from last year.

So would Texas winning the Big 12
Oh…. ZING… But seriously I think most people expect OU’s defense to be one of the best in the country seeing how the D that held Florida to it’s lowest output of the season is returning every single player except for the safeties.

pff
People who look at bowl games as a harbinger of future performance tend to be spectacularly wrong. A team cannot simply play week in and week out in rhythm and then sit for 6 weeks and perform at the same level.

Ok then

I think their D is awesome
Perhaps I will be wrong with them being #1, but they will be right up there, IMO

The "Official" Media
Has 13 players from Oklahoma schools including 9 from OU as well. I guess we all suck then…

Not that this has anything to do with the all-big 12 team...
but I was just looking at some betting sites and they have 3 CU games as some of their “games of the year” with odds already. They have us as underdogs against WVU -5 , Okie St -17, and the hated Huskers -3. Not getting much respect so far…
Odds to win Big 12 Championship game:
North: NU 5/1, KU 7/1, CU 30/1, MU 30/1, KSU 50/1, ISU 100/1
South: UT 7/5, OU 3/2, OSU 7/1, TT 60/1, BU 100/1, A&M 100/1

As sad as it is...
It is pretty fair I think… Miller might have been in there with a full year last year.
The Big12 is just stacked.
