Josh Smith Gets 2nd Release to UCLA
promoted to front page...-irish1611
Just saw on Ringo's blog that Smith has also been released to UCLA -
When CU limited his transfer option to just USC, he appealed the decision to a committee made up of three professors. They ruled on the side of Bohn and Hawkins, but Manning tells me a deal was worked out between Smith and Hawkins allowing the release and possible transfer to UCLA.
If Smith eventually ends up with the Bruins, he will be the second Buff in the past two offseasons to leave Boulder for Westwood, Calif. Former offensive lineman Kai Maiava left CU after the 2007 season for UCLA, where he is expected to be a heavy contribuitor this season for former CU coach Rick Neuheisel.
Bruce Feldman also posted on his twitter was we are all hoping
Talked to CU QB Cody Hawkins: Buffs are expecting a big season from WR Markques Simas, who is apparently looking great in off-season work.

Now I plan on seeing J-Fly in a Bruin Uni
I’m sure they will accept him with open arms if he wants to go there

UCLA doesn’t have a scholarship available. Weasel over-recruited the current class. Even after losing several transfers in the spring, he had to pull 4 scholarships away from kids this month just to get down to 85. I’m sure he’ll have no problem breaking a promise and wrecking another kid’s year to get Josh in, but it’s worth watching.

Any details of this deal?
Why would Hawk and Bohn be willing to let him go to UCLA, where he would have a much better chance of playing time under Neuheisel than at SC – what’s in it for CU? A goodwill gesture/avoid bad PR? Lots of unknowns and noone seems to be talking.

location, location, location
UCLA is at least in the center of the recording world, so if that’s the story, Josh can get the training he wants there.
A scholarship seems unlikely with UCLA’s current situation. If slick Ricky comes up with another scholly, it won’t just ruin some kid’s year, it will ruin another football career. That should put a damper on UCLA recruiting for some years to come if they continue to push kids to transfer under these circumstances.

I just want the whole damn thing to be over...
J-Fly is a great KR/PR but I remember far too many 1 catch for 8 yards kinds of games. I just want the whole thing to end at this point. So far it doesn’t seem to be hurting recruiting judging by how well we have been doing lately. It also sounds like Kenny Stills out of CA is still very interested in CU despite having scholarship offers from all of the big boys so that is promising. Is Brian Lockridge going to return any punts or kicks this year?

Agreed
Can anybody say Vance Johnson? This guy’s softer than a Q-tip. Good riddance Josh. At least when you get slamed to the turf in the endzone on a kickoff in LA, the ground won’t be frozen.
Let’s put Speedy (in his slick new No. 5 jersey) back there behind the wedge and see how many folks on the kickoff team can even see him. I’d be willing to bet today he’d lead the conference in all purpose yardage.
