During the afternoon session word filters around the sideline that Hirschman has bailed on the camp. (Internet reports say he checked his e-mail -- one assumes he did so during the camp's lunch break -- to learn he had received a scholarship offer from Colorado, which he promptly accepted.) Scratch another QB from the derby.
Buffs' commit Nick Hirschman was supposed to audition for Pete Carrol at USC's Rising Stars camp for their one quarterback scholarship according to ESPN's Bruce Feldman. I'm telling you, this kid was on the rise in the recruiting world before the Buffs nabbed him.

That's funny...
I got a good laugh out of that. I’m glad that we jumped on him before he became hot on the market. I was getting a little nervous when I saw every QB we were recruiting going off the board. Way to go Buffs!!!
Now let's just hope he sticks
Not to be Debbie Downer, but Jordan Wynn was committed at one time as well, and we all know the bigger schools won’t stop sniffing around if he excels this season. Something tells me we’re going to have to work twice as hard to keep him as we did just to get him. Hell, Hirschman’s a 3 star on Scout right now, and Bob Johnson is usually worth a free star just on his own. This officially marks the last time I will mention this horrible thought.
Also, this might really help recruiting some receivers (specifically Kenny Stills and Paul Richardson).
oh yeah, and then there's this
I know USC fans, so I’ll just assume that somewhere out there in message board land, a bunch of Trojan fans are reading that report and telling each other, “that kid just didn’t want to compete.” I encourage them to keep believing that. end
tell them all he has done is compete
you name a camp, he has been there. Drives to LA from 6 hours north to go to quarterbacks camp. That is why he is rated where he is…he defines competition.

that was really just meant as a tongue in cheek joke
also, Bob Johnson’s camp isn’t about competition, it’s truly about learning. I talked to a guy recently who’s attended Bob’s camps, and that’s what he loves about them. And Bob’s a legend. He’s also the head coach at Mission Viejo. His QB last year (Allen Bridgeford) went to Cal. That’s a big reason I’m totally stoked on Hirschman.

we should be talking to rob johnson this week
so it will be good to hear his perspective on Hirschman

This may sound a bit jaded
and i really hope it isn’t the case, because all the recruits we’ve gotten in the past week have made me really really happy, but I have a hard time letting myself believe that its going to last. After the last recruiting cycle there was so many cases of guys signing early, then come january starting to look around to other schools, and peacing out (Diante, that CB who was looking at us near the end). Not to say that these recruits arn’t loyal or trustworthy, i just have trouble buying completely into them. But i hope that they stay, because i want to see Mr. Hirschman in action!

not worried
This kid seems like he has his head on straight.
He knows he could have sat on his scholarship offer waiting for something else to come along but instead accepted his offer immediately. I think he really wants to be a Buff.
Cal?
If this year we win the games we’re supposed to & a few of the games we could have won last year had we had better kicking/o-line/qb play, then we’ll be fine keeping all our committed guys & will even get a few nationally ranked guys – a la the 2007/2008 class. Unfortunately, I think Cody will be our QB this year, but fortunately, I think he’ll be the QB of late 2007 & not of 2008 (read double the tds vs. ints). But, it takes minimum 8 regular season wins, I think, to have a stellar signing day next year. And a bowl win. Finally.
But, that’s not really the point of my post. I think we play Cal in a couple years, right? @ Cal? Just thinking that will be a GREAT game if Hirshman is going against the Cal QB recruit from Steamboat. Especially if we’ve just posted a couple 10-12 win seasons before that.
We play @ Cal next year
I don’t think Hirschman will be playing as a true freshman. Especially if Clark Evans can develop this year and become the starting QB next year.
However, Cal comes to Boulder the year after and Hirschman might have won the starting job by then.
