BOMBSHELL! Josh Smith to transfer
That's right. Kyle Ringo at Buffzone.com is reporting, as confirmed by Dave Plati, Josh Smith and Ryan Wallace (TE) have requested and been granted their release from their scholarships.
Smith wants to pursue a music career that isn't offered at CU. Most likely destination : USC or ASU.
Wallace is homesick.
I am sick to my stomach!

Just saw this myself
WHAT THE HELL?? Un-freaking-believable!! Leaving because of a specific music major If that is really the main reason he is insane. He had potential to be a big star and got D. Scott to come here and now this? Pursue your damn music career after college, like it matters one iota what you major in if you want to be a rapper.
He’s gonna have to sit out a year and I know he was kind of a big name here but if Josh thinks he’s gonna just waltz onto the USC campus and be handed a football scholarship he’s got another thing coming. Horrible life decision Josh, you need to reconsider and what a dick move to do that to your nephew.

Agreed.
How many rap stars went to college? Young MC and Kanye? Since when is it a prerequisite to get a music degree in “rap-ology?” I can’t believe Kiesau wasn’t able to talk him out of it. And Darrell? Seems like a bad call, but hey, its J-Fly’s life, he can screw it up if he wants. Maybe Slick Rick can woo Josh to Ucla where he can hook up with the Bruins starting center . . . none other than Kai Maiava (up to 312 lbs).
And what of Wallace? He was expected to be a contributor to the passing game this year? Makes the ability to run the ball that much more critical.
Man we need some receiver help now more than ever.

Wallace was at the bottom of the depth chart at TE
after the spring so who knows if he would of been a big contributer or not, still hate to lose players. Here’s my prediction for J-Fly: He will never set foot on the field as a college football player again. He is an electric returner and great athlete but I always got the impression that he really didn’t care all that much about football or improving as a WR. You can’t go to programs like USC or ASU and be a football player if football is your second priority behind music. It’s just not gonna happen. I really have the feeling that football is Darrell’s #1 priority so hopefully we won’t be getting another bombshell like this.

Interesting assessment
and you may be right about USC, but I could see him getting some love from Erickson at ASU. He’s been known to run a loosey-goosey outfit in the past. No matter how we spin it this is a BIG-time hit for the offense/special teams.
As for Wallace, he seemed to be coming into his own (good hands and route running) and, but for the more experienced players in front of him, could have expected increased PT as he grew into the system. His departure creates a depth issue at TE, if not thisyear than next and at a skill position we need productivity from; especially if we’re going to be running a more “pro-style” offense.

speechless
I checked the date to be sure this wasn’t a sick joke.
depressing.
Moving on … who will get early playing time now? Sounds like Josh Smith didn’t get the concept of “team” after all.

Hey Celestine, get on the phone and call Hawk!
now might be a good time to start getting back into his good graces.
I think the question is “who WON’T get early playing time now?” :-) As many have stated on here it is crucial that Simmons qualifies and now even more so. I think all the incomming freshman should probably plan on playing as well.
You’re right though, it is depressing. Irish must be out enjoying his saturday evening, he’s gonna crap his pants when he sees this.

From the incoming class, most likely Simmons
and he’s still got a TON of work ahead of him in the classroom just to get himself here. And probably Ussery is a good bet for some early PT. Seems likely they’d like to redshirt Darden to give him time to heal completely and build his strength. Also opens the door for the “walk-on brigade,” most notably, Jason Espinoza.

Give me a break!
I continue to be amazed by some of the posts here – it doesn’t seem like 13-year-old girls would care about this website, but it’s often hard to tell.
Those who are sick to their stomach and/or responding to their own posts, or speechless and depressed should really think about getting a life!
Before you attack, I am a Buff fan through and through. However, I don’t know that Ryan Wallace has hit the field yet. Josh Smith reminds me of J.R. Smith – something is going to happen whenever he touches the ball, but it could be awesome or or it could be awful!

I like the J.R. Smith analogy
but the rest of your post is pretty stupid. Why’d you join the site just to bad mouth people if you don’t care about the whole situation and have more important things to do with your life?

You don't like the discussion
you can always tune it out. If that’s what any 13 year-old girl would do. It’s not about the posters, its about the Buffs. Out.

You say it's about the Buffs, however ...
Your first post is simply a repeat of news provided by Kyle Ringo, thus enabling you to talk about … yourself.
Post #2 is a response to yourself to talk about … yourself.
Post #3 – more talk about players who apparently are no longer Buffs, with brief mentions of D. Scott and future receiver needs.
Post #4 – still more talk about players who apparently are no longer Buffs.
Post #5 – actual discussion of current and future Buff players – kudos!
Post #6 – lame response to my post.
So sorry that I disrupted your little private conversation with nebraskasux. Stuff happens – get over it!

Hmmm...
I have a Music degree in Music engineering and Music production from the Universtiy of Colorado at Denver. That is the program Hawkins was most likely tring to get Smith into. What makes no sense to me is… that is the exact degree program Smith is trasferring for. So why is he really leaving Colorado?
I trasferred from CU to CU-Denver for the same reason, that CU does not offer music production degrees. In all honesty, after going through the program, it is absolutely worthless to learn about music production, unless you already have a firm grasp of musical composition and an a solid understanding of music technology.
It is more a degree of what you bring too it, they are not going to teach you how to make a hit song. They can only show you the door.
Good luck Smith… there are just as many people trying to be rappers as there are people trying to be football players. Not focusing on either will lead to failure.
