CU SID Release:

"After signing Toby Veal in November 2007, he revealed to me that he had fathered a daughter," Bzdelik said. "Throughout the past school year, Toby struggled with being too far from his newborn. Consequently, he has decided to return closer to home so he can be with her on a regular basis."

Another transfer?

Damn. Attrition continues to bite the Buffs. This is a pretty significant loss. Veal was our top recruit last year if I’m not mistaken and had a lot of potential.

At least there's a good reason

From the official press release about his departure:

"After signing Toby Veal in November 2007, he revealed to me that he had fathered a daughter," Bzdelik said. "Throughout the past school year, Toby struggled with being too far from his newborn. Consequently, he has decided to return closer to home so he can be with her on a regular basis.

Can’t really blame the guy for wanting to be near his kid. Let’s hope the team can improve next year without him.

I really hope his baby is the primary reason

for him transferring, but let’s actually see where he actually ends up going. This is really disappointing because he is the only athletic big man we have on the roster. If you all go back and look at old basketball articles I promise you’ll see posts by me predicting his departure. I just never understood why in a completely lost season where our only goal should have been to get our freshman experience for next year the #1 recruit (who by all indications was a hard worker in practice) got absolutely zero playing time.

Obviously the family thing is extremely important, but I would think that if he was truly happy here and felt good about his basketball future he would of made it work somehow.
