Former Buff, LB Brad Jones, Drafted in Seventh Round
Well, we didn't get shut out in the draft. Still holding out for Hypolite getting the call but in the seventh round today, LB Brad Jones was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. I think they got a steal in the seventh round. He is an asset because he can get to the quarterback and has the size & speed to be a solid special teams contributor. If you remember right, Jones had a solid pro-day to get the attention need for today:
One of the players who stood out today was Brad Jones. One scout clocked his 40-yard dash time at 4.54 which would have been the fastest among the 26 linebackers invited to the combine, but most scouts had it around 4.60 which would have been good for the second fastest time by a linebacker (behind Wake Forest's Aaron Curry 4.56). Jones also showed well in other drills, as he would have had the fastest 3-cone time (4.75), fourth fastest time in both the 60-yard shuttle (11.62) and the 20-yard shuttle (4.21) and he would have tied for eighth in the broad jump at 9'11. Jones also showed well in the linebacker position drills.
In 2008, Brad Jones' senior year, he was fifth in tackles, totaling 78 tackles. But the Packers didn't draft Jones based on that stat, rather his seven sacks last year which led the Buffs as well as seven tackles for loss. Throw in 14 total quarterback pressures and he has third down situational pass rusher written all over him. Jones will be missed from the 2009 squad as the ability to get to the quarterback is a concern.
Congrats to Brad Jones!

At least he'll get to hang out with Mason
I’m absolutely shocked that George Hypolite didn’t get the call.
Hmm…..I know a local team that didn’t draft as many DL as they should have……go ahead Mcdaniels give him a call
I don't know if McDaniels knows there
is such thing as a defensive line position with the way he drafted. The Broncos defense will be a 1 – 2 – 8.

Had Hypolite left last year he would have gone between 3erd and 5th round. Last year he didn’t produce like he could have. He should make a practice squad somewhere. As for Jones he needs to play in coverage better, if he can do that he’s got a great shot to play for a long time.
