Miami OH game is no more?

Seems like it's been forever that we've been discussing the Miami OH game (why are we playing them on the road? what are the TV implacations) but now it looks like we won't be playing them at all.

Check out Ringo's blog here: http://www.buffzone.com/blogs/buffzone-sports/2009/feb/28/miami/

So I guess there is no chance to have another home game, has to be a road game with a MAC oppenent...  I actually kind of like it when we play teams we haven't played in a long time (or ever), so as long as it's on ESPN so I can watch it I'm cool with us playing at Toledo or Bowling Green.  Neither of those games would be gimmies, we better show up to play.

you beat me to it!

still up in buff bites today but I am wondering if it has to be a road game? I agree, this doesn’t really work out well for the Buffs because I think Akron, Bowling Green and Toledo are better than Miami. Akron was 5 – 7 last year, Toledo only won three games but beat Michigan and Bowling Green went 6-6. Miami is coming off a 2 – 10 season with a new coach. Personally, I wish we could take the money but I would hate to have another FCS school come in here. At the same time, we would get $750,000, plus revenue from the game with only a small payout to the FCS school. It would probably be a million dollar pay day, something that we all know the athletic department could use.

Bohn hit on this last Monday

One of the students asked about that at last Monday’s on-campus town hall meeting. I can’t quote the answer, but the gist of it is:

-This (at the time) would have been news to Bohn and Hawkins, they haven’t tried to get out of the game;
-The contract-breaking school must really want to get out because they still have to pay out;
-And the contract-breaking school usually helps set up a replacement game.

That’s a lot of time, money, and general effort for Miami (OH) to avoid playing CU, isn’t it?

Yep

and the payoff for them doesn’t seem strong enough for them to go through with it and lose that much money.

well...

the impression I got from all of this was that if Miami OH finds us a suitable replacement game (another MAC team, ESPN game) then they aren’t breaking the contract and don’t have to pay us anything, right? So at that point they could play the (supposedly) more profitable game against UK.

There is no excuse for losing to Miami (OH). Miami did win the MAC East division last season and got to the MAC championship game.
