I Hijacked the Contra Costa Times Chat With Diante Jackson

So, I had to do it. I just had to ask the question. It was driving me nuts. Of course, DJ is not like every other high school kid. He is smart and mature so he really didn't give me an opening but all he did was just validate that he will be known as the one that got away. Here is what I asked him today:

TRR: Hey Diante, congrats on your commitment to Oregon. How big was your family in your decision to change your commitment from CU to Oregon?

It was big, but honestly I really thought everything through and thought about the positives and negatives and when I came down to a final conclusion, Oregon had more positives to help me succeed.

TRR: You don't have to answer this if you don't want to but any truth to the rumors out there that your mom and grandma wouldn't sign the letter of intent to play at Colorado...and by the way DJ, it's Bob from the Ralphie Report.

Yeah, I knew it was you homie, but they had a part in it but it was my decision but honestly it was the hardest thing to do in my life, deciding that I wasn't gonna go to CU.

TRR: Well, all I can say is that we will miss you a ton in the black and gold! You are a stand up dude. Did you talk to coach Hawkins yesterday or Kiesau? If so what did they say?

I know man, I will miss all of you, it was great visiting CU and being able to get to know all the players and coaches. I gotta say that Scotty McKnight is one of the coolest people I have ever met. But no I haven't talked to them yet, I'll give them a call soon though.

TRR: DJ, what are your expectations for next year in terms of playing time, etc? Any promises or hints made by the Oregon staff?

well, the coaches at oregon told me basically that i would get a big opportunity to be able to fight for a starting position. i know i can do it because i know i am physically ready and now all i have to do is get down all of the plays and work as hard as i can to prove to them that i am worthy for it

TRR: Goals for both of you guys this offseason...add weight, gain speed???

Well that's true. I'm 210 now and I just gotta keep getting faster

TRR: You're killing me, Diante...210 pounds...you're going to blow it up.
