The Wait is Over: National Signing Day Thread Time!

Good Morning Buff Nation! We need Woodrow to post some music to get us ready for today. It's about time we got this thing going. It is finally here. We will know early on a few prospects like Emory Blake, Josh Moten and Byron Moore. Diante will announce around 11:00 am MT.

I will update this thread with things I hear and commits. I will also either run stories or fan posts with more information about Buff commitments. Hopefully today is stress free and we have some good news in the morning.

Go Buffs!

Let's make sure that we are careful with what we post from premium rivals and scout sources today.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some helpful links for today: Rivals CU LOI / Commitment List / Link to Watch ESPNU online / Rivals.com Wire / CuBuffs.com

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10:00 AM - Here is the latest release from cubuffs.com:

Four more undergrads and one junior college transfer have signed their national letter of intent to study and play football at Colorado and have been cleared by compliance: David Bakhtiari (OL, Burlingame, Cailf.), Clark Evans (QB, Los Alamitos, Calif.), Liloa Nobriga (Summerlin, Nev.), Edward Nuckols (DL, San Marcos, Calif.) and Andre Simmons (JC - WR, Blackville, S.C. / Independence [Kan.] CC).

9:15 AM - According to rivals.com, 2* DL David Bakhtiari, 2* DE Forrest West and 3* Parker Orms have sent in their LOI. I think West and Bakhtiari have big upside.

9:02 AM - According to GoDucks.com, 4* WR Diante Jackson has signed his LOI to join Oregon. Good luck to you, DJ.

8:52 AM - I can't tell you how excited I am that Ussery signed. He is the type of player and person the University needs. Great upside, great ability, great size. That is three wide receivers. Jarrod Darden, a surprise in Andre Simmons and Terdema Ussery. If we can get Diante Jackson, get your party shoes on!

8:48 AM - CU Buffs.com has issued this release regarding players they have got LOI's from:

Early signees include Nate Bonsu (DT, Allen, Texas), Jarrod Darden (WR, Keller, Texas), Zack Grossnickle (PK/P, Denver), Gus Handler (OL, Barrington, Ill.), Jack Harris (OL, Parker, Colo.), Nick Kasa (DE, Thornton, Colo.), Deji Olatoye (CB, Dublin, Ohio), Shaun Simon (OL, Broken Arrow, Okla.), Terdema Ussery (WR, Dallas), Derrick Webb (LB, Memphis, Tenn.) and Forrest West (DE, Canton, Conn.).

8:30 AM - A little recap for you. Here is what we know (or at least think we do): LOI sent in: 3* WR Jarrod Darden, 4* WR Andre Simmons, 3* DT Nate Bonsu, 2* DB Deji Olatoye, 3* Ath Josh Moten, 3* LB Derrick Webb, 2* OG Gus Handler and 2* C Shaun Simon

CUBUFFS.com reports 11 guys have sent in faxes as of 8:30am. They will release the list at 9:00am

Guys who committed elsewhere: 4* WR Emory Blake (Auburn), 4* S Byron Moore (USC) and 4* S Bradley McDougald (Kansas)

8:17 AM - 2* OL Gus Handler and 3* WR Jarrod Darden fax in LOI's to CU.

8:15 AM - 3* Ath Josh Moten commits to Colorado. I am excited to see what he brings to this team. He is an athlete and we can all agree that we need athletes. CU will give him a chance at QB.

8:11 AM - 4* S Byron Moore plays the game, re-commits to USC. Should have known better to get wrapped up in that saga.

8:00 AM - 4* WR JUCO Andre Simmons surprises all and faxes his LOI into CU. Big get!

7:50 AM - 3* LB Derrick Webb from Tennessee has faxed his LOI into CU. Welcome!

7:45 AM - 4* WR Emory Blake to Auburn per rivals.com. Bummer

7:30 AM - According to rivals.com, Nate Bonsu and Deji Olatoye have officially sent in their LOI's. Welcome to the Buffs!

7:07 AM - 4* S/WR Bradley McDougald officially signs letter of intent to play with in Kansas. He is a good get for Mangini. There are rumors that he may be playing wide receiver at Kansas as well. He was once a former Ohio State commit and thought at one time to be a silent commit to the Colorado Buffaloes. His teammate is current Buff verbal commit, 2* CB Deji Olatoye. No biggie here for the Buffs, he was off the radar when he stated his intention to commit two weeks ago.

Since we are going to be here for a while today here are three new TRR daily jams to enjoy why wait for their decisions!

I hope I am not crying in my cubicle come lunchtime. I really want Byron Moore to be a Buff.

YAY!

alright, I’ve been in contact with People Who Knows Things, and this is what I’ve learned:
Preston King is pretty undecided. HAwk has done a great job of convincing King that he can come in and compete, and position himself to win a scholarship quickly. SDSU has already offered, and are hitting him hard. USC really just has the aura of being USC (of course, that’s significant).

No one has a clue about Moten and Moore. I’ve heard probably 6 different stories about them.

I’m pretty sure that we’ll get Blake. I’m not ready to call it, but I’m confident.

I thought Moore and Moten were announcing at 7Pacific, but I could be totally wrong. I’m totally in the dark on Blake because the only people I know who know things are on this site ;D

Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln cornerback DeAndre Byrd will not sign with Nebraska and will enroll at a junior college instead.

Byrd, a three-star prospect, committed to the Cornhuskers in August but did not have the grades to enroll at Nebraska out of high school.

Hey guys!

As a Duck fan, we’ve heard rumors that our coaching staff has been going after Diante Jackson? How worried are you about this? Is his decision up in the air (as seemed to be hinted at in the main post)?

--AddictedToQuack, SBNation's Oregon Ducks blog

by jtlight on Feb 4, 2009 8:22 AM MST reply actions

I'll be honest

I’m terrified of losing Jackson to Oregon. We need playmakers badly, and he would give us an immediate spark. From what I’ve been able to see from his recruitment, his heart really has him wanting to play for the Buffs, but his family has been pulling for him to play for Oregon for quite some time. At this point, I’m ready to throw my hands up in the air and say he’s 50/50. It’s my best guess.

I am Jack's unbridled optimism.

by SlamDunkTheFunk on Feb 4, 2009 8:24 AM MST up reply actions

We've been freaking out about it for weeks

Same as you guys. He’s a great prospect and both programs want him. He’s a great kid and both programs deserve him. Good luck today.

by Buff-in-IL on Feb 4, 2009 8:25 AM MST up reply actions

Hey jtlight...

it has been a two horse race between OU and CU since spring. Diante committed to Oregon first, then decommitted and went to CU. Now his decision is up in the air. His mom and grandma want him to go to Oregon. Arizona State has now entered the picture as well. He is a great kid, just getting pressured by his family. His dad also lives in Portland so that gives the Ducks an advantage as well.

by Bob_Bell on Feb 4, 2009 8:26 AM MST up reply actions

Thanks for the info!

At this point, though Diante would be huge for Oregon, given our WR depth issues, I hope he goes where he’ll be the happiest. I listened to your interview with him not that long ago, and he sounded like he really liked Colorado. Good luck to him.

Shepherd on ESPNU

did anyone else see the clip of him in class? the whole 10 seconds he was talking to the girl next to him

by NorCalBuff08 on Feb 4, 2009 10:28 AM MST reply actions

Tommy Tuberville is wrong

LSU had a QB just like Shepard. Unfortunately, that QB was an asshole and had to transfer to Jacksonville St.

by Hallux Valgus on Feb 4, 2009 10:37 AM MST reply actions

he wasn't an asshole, he was just a screw-up

Imagine how LSU might have done last year with him, too…

(10:30 a.m.) – A special half-hour update, Colorado received a pair NLI’s from in-state players and they’ve been cleared by compliance. Parker Orms (S, Wheat Ridge, Colo.) and DaVaughn Thornon (TE, Denver) will study and play football at Colorado.

I've got nothing on that

My source in the south bay is unavailable during the day. But Tucker hasn’t sent in his LOI either, so I’d say it’s unimportant.

Hey guys skipped out of class a little early to try to catch up with some buffs action

Tim griffin is about to answer a question on the espn blog and ill post his answer here

by roxbombers on Feb 4, 2009 10:50 AM MST reply actions

Here is Tim

Hawk has a nice underrated class that should really beef up the Buffs in the trenches. The commits from Nick Kasa and Edward Nuckols are both good gets. I’m sure he’s a little disappointed he wasn’t able to beat out USC for Byron Moore, but it’s been a solid class nonetheless.

by roxbombers on Feb 4, 2009 10:50 AM MST reply actions

so is 3 good enough?

If we add 2 freshman WR and one junior WR, is that okay, depth wise?
Obviously, how they play is the factor, but Ussery, Simmons, and Darden seems like a pretty strong effort to fill the position.

by Hallux Valgus on Feb 4, 2009 10:54 AM MST reply actions

No

I think it has to be a priority again next year. To run an effective spread you need at lest 4 recievers you can rely on and that doesn’t account for any injuries and eligibility issues. Next year we will have hopefully Simas and Simmons added to that mix but we still need to establich depth for the future.

by lakebuff on Feb 4, 2009 11:02 AM MST up reply actions

I just meant this year

I agree with you otherwise. I think we need Hardy to come in and compete right now.

by Hallux Valgus on Feb 4, 2009 11:05 AM MST up reply actions

For this year

I an going to overcome my dissapointment about Jackson and say we did enough. If we could of added Jackson or Blake though I would compare it to our running back haul of last year.

by lakebuff on Feb 4, 2009 11:11 AM MST up reply actions

I am very dissappointed we weren't able to get Jackson or Blake

What seemed like a very good class, now seems somewhat average, especially seeing what the other Big 12 teams are getting.

yeah, still a ton of ifs in their...

If Simmons qualifies, he will be good
If Simas is eligible, he will be good
If Smith dedicates himself, he will be good.

Those are our three wideouts next year along with a slot in McKnight. If Jones or Hardy commit, once again, there will be a big if in their, but they would help in depth.

by Broncoman on Feb 4, 2009 11:20 AM MST up reply actions

how sad is it

that we’re talking about “along with McKnight.”

Scotty is fine, but to be a championship team, he should be, at best, a third receiver.

That’s one of the reasons that I want Jewel Hardy

by Hallux Valgus on Feb 4, 2009 11:10 AM MST reply actions

I couldn't agree more.

Over the last 5 years we’ve been conditioned to set our sights so low as a program. I’m so sick of competing. I want to dominate.

by Buff-in-IL on Feb 4, 2009 11:12 AM MST up reply actions

I like scotty

He is was the only other reciever that had the cajones and go over the middle last year. He is also smart enough to make up for all of the measurables he is lacking.

by lakebuff on Feb 4, 2009 11:13 AM MST up reply actions

I like him too

but he shouldn’t be our #1 receiver

by Hallux Valgus on Feb 4, 2009 11:15 AM MST up reply actions

No he shouldn't

but I will take him in the slot.

So here's a question

how would you improve the program (other than the players, obviously)?

As stated above, I would improve the internet outreach

by Hallux Valgus on Feb 4, 2009 11:30 AM MST reply actions

I don't know what the status of the football camps are there

But I think if we can find a way to get more kids to Boulder in the Summer and Spring, I think that would go a long way to improving things, especially if you can get the kids from Texas and Oklahoma up there. Trust me when they see that spring practices and summers can be in 70 to 80 degrees with no humidty will trump being in Oklahoma and Texas in the Spring and Summer and trying to work out there.

have to keep updating the facilities

and they need to do something about coaching salaries and contract terms. It always comes up and it is never good.

Winning will cure a lot of issues and that should happen next year.

I agree

Some support from the state and university would help too, its not a great thing when the general preception of CU is that the majority of the professors would do away with athletics. I think if the state can look at revising the statutes regarding contracts for coaches, that would help a lot.

I saw McKay has not signed a LOI at UCLA

Any chance that since Moore went to USC that we may be able to do some last minute convincing of McKay
