Dan Hawkins Talks About Getting A New Email Account Because of the Overflow of Emails to His Original Colorado Account
-Here is the 9news article:
"I go, 'Guys, you can rip me all you want and I'm good with that. But just tell me how to get better.' You can tell me I'm a jerk. OK, I'm a jerk. WHY am I a jerk? What do I need to do not to be a jerk?," Hawkins said. "So, hey, everybody wants to win and everybody's passionate and that's great. We just have to keep following it and there will be lots of joy on Folsom Field here."

saw that last night and made me want to be sick
I understand that buy ole Dan doesn’t have time to read Joe’s email, but why would he be so stupid to deactivate that account??
Just let the complaints file into the account and let them sit there.
Anything that guy says says now isn’t helping him, especially with all his time that he doesn’t read emails, he is letting this recruiting class fall apart.
Mister Jones taking an offical to A&M, Muchie talking to zona, this is going to be a long offseason……

I don't mind this action too much
if I thought it would help him win football games. Obviously, the emails he is getting are not constructive and I am sure they are overwhelming. But once again, Dan Hawkins makes it a bigger deal than it needs to be. He makes references about Santie Clause and other off the topic comments instead of just saying this: “the email feedback is extremely negative and it should be, no question. I have two email accounts, both of which I read and look at (he can lie to us about reading the negative ones). One for the fans and one for the football team and admins. We appreciate the interest in our program and the passion of the fans. We are extremely dissatisfied by our record and we hear it from you every day. We take your concerns seriously but we are working every day to become a winner on the field.”
That is all he needs to say. Instead, he goes into this thing about “tell me how we can get better”. Coach, we aren’t supposed to tell you anything, you get paid to make it better.
I liken this to when he shut down spring practices. It is just completely handled poorly. Just say we are closing practices because that is how the rest of the league operates, it can be a distraction to our players when they should be focused on practice and we feel it is the best way to help us win ball games. It doesn’t need to be this long drawn out attack about internet scum or people hurting the program by writing reports.
All he needed to say was I have two email accounts, one for the fans and one for the players. It’s easy. No fluff. This practice is not a foreign thing coach. I have three email accounts: one for personal use, one for the Ralphie Report and one at my work. Multiple email accounts is nothing that people can get mad at, it is a completely legitimate practice.
Instead, we get Santie Clause and how I don’t have the time to read emails. Just like he doesn’t have time to go on the road and do speaking engagements. Well then, don’t do it. Who cares. All we want is wins. But don’t make stupid statements about the time and Santie Clause.

thats the point...it shouldn't be news but Hawkins blew it up by saying
tell me how to do it better and that he isn’t Santie Clause.

Lame
Tell him how to do his job, you get paid a million a year, you should be qualified to do your job and not solicit advice from the general population. You want advice on how to coach, take a look at all the comments on this blog, it’s free. I understand getting hate mail would be a drag, but that’s what you signed up for bruther! If you can’t take the heat, please pack your bags and go back to Boise.

How does Bohn let this happen?
This should be a case study on how not to manage an athletic department.
by NYCskibum on Dec 7, 2009 12:15 PM MST reply actions 0 recs
Good point
But Bohn did not have much of any previous success managing any athletic departments, so seems like he really has no clue to begin with. Bohn just strikes me as a guy who tries to be a PR guy and a yes man to the powers that be, but really has no clue on running the AD. God I wish they would can him and get someone who will be able to stand up the administration.

After watching the videos
Bohn’s comments are the worse. I understand that comments and stories like these hurt recruiting, coaches, players and fans which is all the more reason a change needed to be made before it got to this point. What did he really expect to happen? Fans to rollover and be content with what the outcome has been on the field the last four years? At this point he should just be thankful that he still has a fan base that feels passionately about the program one way or another. Hell it would be much worse if no one cared.

It is headed that way.

No shit
I used to come on here every day, now I am thinking maybe check in around signing day, then spring ball, then in July…..
It is frustrating to only see stupid shit done by the leadership of the University of Colorado.

haha…yeah, it sort of sucks we are in rut…hopefully basketball comes around but the loss to Oregon State scared me a little about this teams prospects. That was a very winnable game.

Bohn and Hawkins need to just shut up.
I doubt any PR firm would want the challenge to make over these two. If they want all the negative sites and emails to go away, win more than 3 fricken games! Go 9-3 instead of 3-9 and most of the negativity will disappear.
Dan, spend your efforts on recruiting better players and figuring out how to better use the existing players already here instead of worrying about the internet. If your so busy why are you whining on interviews with 9news about how your are too busy for email and the internet? Also, instead of reducing your speaking schedule this year, wipe it out all together. That will free up some time so you can work on making your football team better.

That needs to be priority number one, I have to question who the hell pays him to speak and why?
Also, instead of reducing your speaking schedule this year, wipe it out all together. That will free up some time so you can work on making your football team better.
I can see the program now, “How to make a million dollars a year and be completely unqualified at your job.” I am guessing a lot of the people on wall street went to his seminar.

Hawkins could really do himself a favor
by thinking about how his responses/interviews come across to Joe Fan.
I understand his comment on “tell me why I’m a jerk”- I does no good to tell somebody they suck, but not why they suck so they can fix it.
As Irish said, think about it a tad before you blurt it out.
I’m not convinced the recruiting this year is falling apart, kids visiting and alking to other programs happens every year. Wewsin some that way, we lose some that way.

It’s called Inbox filtering. Is the e-mail sender in my contact list? If not, put in folder ‘People who hate me’. Not so damn difficult.

Hahahaha
A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.

He could of spent the same time with an IT person
that he spent on this interview and been shown how to do this and then there woudl be no story and we wouldn’t have to learn of yet another thing that Hawkins is incompetent at.

This website sucks
its turned into netbuffs part 2 – just an outlet for dumb complaining babies – how many of you single white 30 something angry males email our coach and make his job harder and then turn around and call yourself a fan – losers

Pot meet Kettle
We want good news as much as anyone else, but we just report on what happens. As we transition to basketball we are hoping to see some more positive developments (loss to Oregon State not withstanding), but there isn’t a whole lot to be positive about around the football program.
That being said we need the positive folks around just as much as we need the negative and we hope that you will share your views as much as possible. I tend to keep my opinion to myself for the most part but I certainly like to hear from both sides.

Right...
Go ahead and provide us with some positives then. I’m a CU student, and would love nothing more than to defend this football program, but I can’t see anything worth defending. Prove me wrong.

the difference between Boise and Boulder
is the negative culture – this would never happen in Boise and thats why they win – if you have ever wondered why Hawkins was the winniest coach in football at Boise and a consistent loser in Boulder, you need to admit that the only relevant difference between teh two environments is the fan base. Then look at these websites and the behavior of the alum. Look at yourselves. The news is reporting about how destructive the fan base is behaving!!
by BuffaloSoldier on Dec 8, 2009 9:15 AM MST reply actions 0 recs
Really
Only difference, not like CU had any tradition or football culture before Hawkins got here, the difference between the two schools is huge. One plays in the mighty WAC and one is in a BCS conference, one has a bunch of former and current NFL players, the other has three, one has had a long tradition of winning, the other has come on recently.
Of course BSU fans are going to be happy, they have not been a factor in college football except for the past five years or so, when the only thing that people knew about BSU was that they play on a blue rug, then you don’t have much tradition. Face it Cody or Dan or whoever you are, if BSU went into the tank and had four strait losing seasons, I am guessing the coach would be getting a lot of heat there too. This is part and parcel for any D-I program that matters, you don’t think Charlie Weiss got hate mail, what about Bill Callahan, or Fulmer before he was shown the door, or Ron Zook at Florida…if you don’t win, don’t expect the fans to sit back and think everything is great.

LOL
I remember hearing this same type of crap from Nebraska fans – CU has the worse fans, etc., etc., etc. However, a nice, charming fanbase is easy when you’re whipping everyone that you play. As we saw with NE, once you start losing, the fans turn ugly. Just like when NE fans show up at Bill Callahan son’s football games JUST TO BOO HIM, so will BSU’s fanbase turn sour when they actually play BCS-caliber schools on a weekly basis and start going 9-3, 8-4 and , have a losing season.
And I know. My mom has lived in Boise since the mid-nineties. Her husband had season tickets for ever and worked at BSU. I’ve been to the smurf turf. I remember the BSU coach who passed away from cancer. You’re kidding yourself and obviously have never played a down of organized football if you think BSU wins because of the fans. That’s ridiculous. They win because the execute better than the opposing team. Plain and simple. BSU fans are just like every other fanbase.

Winningest coach at Boise?
Not by wins or percentage.

Yes, it's the fans that are at fault
Riiiiight. Genius, pure genius.
Clearly, it was never about Hawkins at all. Quite obviously, the coach responsible for Boise State’s success never left the program.
Chris Peterson’s the guy we should’ve hired, plainly.

Just an observation....
…the freeze frame for the 9 news video looks like someone just killed a puppy in front of coach hawk. Shock and sadness…. emotions we’ve become all too familiar with as buffs fans during his tenure.
