Monday Buff Bites - "Bohn Rolls Eyes" About Questions Suggesting a Coaching Change
Future cloudy for Colorado - The Longmont Times-Call
Bohn said Sept. 15 his department was "under attack" from fans upset over losing the season’s first two games. E-mails and phone calls to the Times-Call, plus opinions written on Internet message boards, indicate fans have grown angrier since. An issue facing the department now is the challenge that keeping Hawkins would pose to selling tickets and raising funds in 2010. Asked about that issue on Nov. 5, Bohn said, "The program is not more important than any one individual."
CU coach Hawkins not worried about job security - The Denver Post
In response to questions about unsubstantiated Internet rumors — including one site that wrote about Bohn talking to former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan about the CU job — Bohn rolled his eyes. "The position is not open," he said. Bohn said he has not contacted any prospective candidates.
CU football players shoulder blame for woes - Boulder Daily Camera
Every player said firing Hawkins and his staff now or at the end of the season would be the wrong decision by athletic department and school administrators. The players agreed the coaching staff bears some of the responsibility for the season going so wrong, but they also argued that players have to hold up their end of the deal or it doesn`t matter how good the coaches are. "It`s not just one reason that we lose these games," middle linebacker and tri-captain Jeff Smart said. "It`s not all on the coaches. There also has to be some accountability from us. We just flat out have to play better. The coaches can coach as hard as they can, but when it comes down to it, we`re the guys out on the field making the plays. In my mind, that is really the biggest part of it."
Hawkins not concerned about job security | All Things Colorado Sports
"I told (reporters) when I first got here, you do things right," Hawkins said. "I think Mike has an appreciation for that. I think Phil (CU chancellor Phil DiStefano) has an appreciation for that. … "That’s really what you try to stick to. You can only live by virtue and virtue alone. So you stick with that and keep plugging along.’’

The biggest thing that would worry us if we were the one’s that hired and are now employing Dan Hawkins is this very simple question: Is the Colorado football program getting better or getting worse under Dan Hawkins. A very good argument could be made that is has gotten better off the field, because there were all kinds of problems at CU when Hawkins arrived that had nothing to do with football, but we cannot imagine that anyone could form a coherent argument around the idea that the Colorado football program on the field is better today than it was when Hawk arrived four years ago.
Oklahoma State: Zac Robinson Likely To Play Saturday
Robinson, says head coach Mike Gundy, is expected to play Thursday night against the Colorado Buffaloes, this despite suffering an apparent concussion Saturday in a 24-17 win over Texas Tech, ESPN.com reports.

Once again I thought our guys battled and hung in there. I though early on offensively we had a couple of things not go our way and that caused us to hiccup a little bit but I thought they were focused and they knew that had to make a couple plays at the end to win.
CU men already benefiting from more depth - Boulder Daily Camera
"It`s nice to have a bench that you have confidence in," McClain said. "It`s easy as a coach when you turn around and you feel good about who you`re grabbing and sending in there. I think all of our new guys had some bright spots and some things they have to do better. And I thought all of our veteran guys did some good things. There`s no question as our young kids continue to develop that`s going to make us better."
Final two weeks will weed out weakest links in Big 12 | Sports | Star-Telegram.com
Only Colorado (3-7, 2-4 in Big 12) has played its way out of the postseason picture, which includes eight guaranteed berths for league teams.

12. Colorado: Remember when this team was going to "win 10 games with no excuses" before the season? Instead, Dan Hawkins’ boast rings hollow as the Buffaloes were the first team in the Big 12 eliminated from bowl consideration with their seventh loss. The Buffaloes have the conference’s longest road losing streak with 12 games. And it won’t get any easier as they face a huge challenge heading into Oklahoma State on a short week.

But if the Cowboys can run the table and finish 10-2, they will have as good a claim to a BCS bowl berth as almost any team from a major conference. It will be interesting to see if they can get there.

If Bohn is really rolling his eyes at the possibility of a coaching change
We are in much, much, much more trouble than any of us can imagine.
"Every Player"
I find that hard to believe, I understand falling on the sword, but bottom line is that if I was a Senior on this team I would be pissed, especially if I was recruited by Hawkins, to know that I would be going out on one of the worst teams in school history would get me pissed as hell, I would be pissed that Hawkins could either not get this team to play together or not be able to get difference makers. I agree the players should be playing better, but it is the coach’s responsibility to put in game plans that can work, that can teach a team how to block, to get motivated to play, to not accept playing like crap, and when the cach and leader of the team apparently could give a rat’s ass about the wins and loses, tradition, or simple things like blocking, then I would have a big ass problem with the coaching staff. If “Every Player” truly feels Hawkins is doing a great job, then we got a lot of players who shouldn’t be playing for the University.

WOOPS
as a freshman, I can tell you I never missed another game as an undergraduate. Beating Nebraska that year was amazing and following it up with the title was something to experience as a student and third generation CU Buff. Now I am in my second year as a season ticket holder and those experiences truly impacted me and transformed me into a rabid Buffs fan. These seniors now have only gotten to witness one truly good win over OU. Otherwise their football-attending experience has been utterly dismal. CU has truly lost an entire generation of students who have no connection to CU football, at least nothing even close to many of us on here and it’s f*cking sad!!!! I feel for these kids :( and the Athletic Department’s budget will feel it too over time if we don’t turn thigns around ASAP…
Post screwed up...
But the point is that Broncoman is totally right and dead on. And it sucks not only for these players that were recruitied under Hawkins four years ago but also every student at CU who is a senior now.

I have the awesome luck of being a senior right now,
And its quite a disgusting feeling that it is possible we will not win my last game in the student section against our rivals. That just sucks and makes me hurt inside. I can assure you all though that even though the highlight of my football viewing experience at CU was a bowl loss, that I will forever bleed black and gold, and plan on getting season tickets the moment i can. Sadly i am certaintly the anomoly here though. A simple look around the empty student section against a and m will show you exactly what buff fiend is saying. Totally weak. THis thing better turn around pretty soon, regardless of who the coach is, or it may never get better, at least from a money view.
In other news, at the B ball game tonight, MIke Bohn looked like he knew the writing on the wall. He was talking to us, and it just looked and sounded as a man who is on his last breaths and is just enjoying the moment, or at least one can hope.
As far as im concerned, the Basketball team is not eliminated from the tournament yet, so this year may not be a total loss…. I love optimism.

Woelk Article- Great Read
This mornings Daliy Camera article “It would be nice to see ‘right way’ be a success” hits right on the mark.
I, like a lot of you on this board, bleed Black and Gold on Saturdays, and probably overlook the ugly things that happen between games with players playing for major programs.
Personally I like what Hawkins has done with the team in respect to off field conduct and applaud him for that. Unfortunatley I don’t applaud what happens on Saturdays.
Just like Woelk, I wish I could have it both ways, but that doesn’t appear to be happening here.
Accountability
Perhaps the most annoying thing for me personally in this whole debacle is the arrogance which Hawk and Bohn are displaying by taking no accounatbility for the results they are producing.
Be humble Hawk. Face the media and the fans and do what Pete Carroll did after the Stanford loss and say, “Hey, this one’s on me and the coaching staff.” You haven’t done that.
For Bohn to ‘roll his eyes’ at the mere suggestion is a slap in the face to the very people that support him. We’d all respect you more if you said, “We’re concerned about the future of the program. We’re pround of the foundation we’ve built here coming from where we did four years ago, but this is not where we want to be. At some pont we have to show that we can compete to win the bIg 12. That’s what the alum’s expect, the supporters expect, the former Buffs expect, and frankly that’s what I expect.”
If Bohn doesn’t show a sense of urgency, and Hawk feels no sense of urgency from his boss to get better, we’ll get…………well, we’ll get what we’ve got now – a team that has entered nearly every game this season without a sense of urgency to get it done now. Sell out, be a leader, make a play, play hurt, and stand up for the guy next to him and bust an opponent in the mouth.
This is just really sad right now that no one there wants to man up.
I totally agree.
If Hawk “Manned Up” and took accountibility, I would be much more forgiving
Agreed
If he took a little responsibility I’d give him a lot more credit. What’s going to happen with the 10 wins and no excuses jargon? Is he going to admit that was a major folley and apologize for misleading the entire fanbase with that remark? My guess is he will simply never acknowledge that it happened or he’ll use the tired “well, we’ve been so close and battled so hard, next year we’ll get there and until then, I’m going to keep lovin them up” etc. etc. God knows it will never happen, but if he is sticking around next year, I would really like to see him do SOMETHING for the university, i.e. maybe donate some serious money to endow a scholarship or improve Dal Ward as some kind of acknowledgement for screwing up and to show that he truly cares about the university and students (who are also his players). If I’d ever dropped the ball this badly at work, I would come in for 5 or 6 straight Saturdays or do SOMETHING to show that I am better than my mistake and that I am a valuable member of the company. To me in my profession, it’s simply unacceptable in every way to mislead a client or the public or make a huge bonehead mistake. Everyone makes mistakes, but I like to step up to the plate, admit my mistake, become a better person and do SOMETHING to show that I want to improve and be a positive difference maker.
He could start
by paying back the University for his son’s scholarship money.
What will be interesting to see
If Hawk does not make it until next year, it will be interesting to see the dynamic if Cody decides to play out his last year of eligibility.
Surely at some point they’ve discussed it or Cosy’s thought about it.
Imagine, big Hawk gone, and Cody sticks around for the new guard and is a fly on the wall to the whole situation. That doesn’t sound healthy at all, for anyone.
to his credit
Cody seems to be the consumate “teammate” in his words and actions. So, I’d be very, very surprised he created waves at all if his pops was no longer running the show.
However, maybe this is something Bohn is considering.

True
It’s been nice to see Cody remain a professional through this whole mess, the benching, the early criticism, and now the clip board role. He’s been a rock and has not waivered in his support of Tyler.
I do appreciate
That the players want to take this on as theirs- that’s a good thing. Problem is, most of what they’re saying isn’t on the coaches, absolutely IS on the coaches when it comes down to it.
The coaches’ entire job is to get the players to play up to their potential- that’s why they are getting paid. It’s their whole job to coach the player in such a way that the player gets better. If that doesn’t happen, it’s on the coaches. Yes, the player has a role, certainly- to play as best as he can manage and to put in as much effort as he can. But let’s be real here, and no disrespect meant- these are teenagers and early 20something kids, not paid pros like their coaches.
It’s the COACHES’ job to make sure the player is in a position (both mentally and physically) to succeed when the opportunity comes. If the individual player cannot break into the starting lineup, for instance, well, that’s on him- he needs to execute better. If some are succeeding while others aren’t, that’s on the individual players.
If the WHOLE TEAM is failing to execute reliably, that’s on the coaching staff. And it’s not individuals that are hosing the team’s chances, it’s THE ENTIRE TEAM.
THAT is coaching, plain and simple.
