Buffs DE Lagrone Shields Leaving the Team
According to Buffzone.com -
Defensive end Lagrone Shields is leaving the Colorado football team, coach Dan Hawkins confirmed Sunday night.
The sophomore from Memphis, Tenn., played in three of the Buffs' four games this season and recorded four total tackles.
During his freshman season in 2008, Shields played two snaps each against Colorado State and Texas. His lone tackle of the year, a solo stop, came against the Longhorns.
Shields redshirted in 2007.
One has to wonder if this is the first of many to come...

here we go
first of many im sure…. what a mess!
you do gotta wonder
if its an isolated case or the tip of the iceberg. Other than Celestine and Ballenger, this is one of Hawk’s first guys to leave. If he’s bailing what does that say about the state of affairs? Timing really sucks, too.
Don't forget Josh Smith...
Celestine seemed to had some real personal issues not related to football, but he is trying to get back with the team.
Ballenger left because he saw that he was buried in the depth chart and wanted to play b-ball anyway.
I don’t worry too much about losing players who feel they will pratically never see the playing field, it just the nature of college football and it happens in every program.
Instances like Josh Smith are a little more disturbing.
my bad
How could I forget J-fly?? Read recently that Neuheisel has some big plans for Josh next year. Kai Maiva also took off and looks pretty good starting at center for the Bruins. On second thought, maybe Shields leaving is just more of the same. What happened to Hawk-love?
Sad to hear he is leaving, but we'll be fine
Sad to hear he is leaving. He is listed as 1st on the depth chart at right DE, a position which I don’t think gets to play much as we use the 3-4 a lot.
Lagrone was on pace to have 120 plays this year. Marques Herrod is on pace for 480+ plays this year. Hypolite, Nicholas and Mo Lucas all played 650-670 plays a piece last year.
Initially worried when I saw this, I’m not too much any more. Kasa had a tackle while Lagrone had zero vs. WVU.
Hopefully the remaining players
don’t have the mentality to bail because the team isn’t playing well. Who knows, some of them might even take a little responsibility for how the team has played, instead of blaming it all on coach Hawkings (that’s not to say that Hawk shouldn’t receive blame – he should – but players play, coaches coach…). Maybe the first step for turning the season around is for the players to not feel like complete victims, but to realize that they still control much of what happens on the field
My take
He was mad he didn’t play vs. WV & as retribution against the coaches, he quit the team. That’s it. Obvoiusly, if we were 4-0, it would be doubful he would quit, so I’m sure the 1-3 start had something to do with it as well.
