Post Game Celebration - Colorado Buffaloes Upset #15 Kansas Jayhawks

Well, well, well...that feels good. Good win today against a potent offense while the Buffs put up 34 points behind a solid effort from Tyler Hansen and Rodney Stewart. Hansen's ability to make plays with his feet and spread the ball around to multiple people definitely had an impact on the team today.
Celebrate Buff fans, it has been a long time coming but enjoy every minute of it!

Still lots of work to do.
Does this validate that Tyler should have been the quarterback from the start? Who knows, we will have a better idea in another couple of games but he did play well tonight.
He did play well
Probably hung on to the ball a little too much, but he generally made plays when he did.
His indecision
on that last third might have really cost him. He looked like he was going to run and then didn’t, eventually deciding a second and a half later it was a good idea and by that time, some of the defenders had already started closing in on him. I’m not saying he would have gotten the first, but he definitely would have had a better shot. That was one of those plays where you could see the player attempting to use his coaching, except it was happening in “slow” motion while the game was moving at normal speed.

So well said
was thinking the same thing. I think (hope) some of that indecision will go away as he plays more. Just getting some experience should do wonders for his development
You see it all the time
with young guys who have had to change their style from predominantly running to mixing in a solid feel for passing as well. You could see his instincts kick in, then the hesitation as the coaching kicked in, then the “Fuck it, I’m going with instincts!”. It was a solid, safe play and I had absolutely zero problem with it. I just wish he would have taken off a second sooner.

Happy with the win
Hansen’s ability to extend a play really made the difference. I really can’t believe that it took this long to get him involved in the offense.
That was awesome.
I can’t believe we let Little Hawk play as long as he did.
Sort of a “coming full circle” here with Reesing having a breakout party against the Buffs a few years ago and our own young QB who just tore off his redshirt having a big-time performance against Kansas.
Of course, the pick call happens about as often as a flag being thrown on the play when one player pushes another into the endzone.
And how ’bout that, huh? Letting the players play and the coaches finally getting out of their own god damn way to let some talent actually shine through. A novel concept.

solid effort
great effort by the players, and finally, a positive win to build on. However, I’m still concerned with the coaching staff’s ability to adjust on the fly, and some of the mental errors. And for life of me, can we coach the DB’s to knock balls down or wrap up the WR’s arms on pass plays? That’s high school stuff and our guys don’t appear to be coached in the technique.
No kidding.
I was freaking out at some of those catches at the end because not only were we losing the jump balls, but weren’t even really contesting them very well.

Just a terrific win
Great game, lots of fun to watch. Was very impressed with Hansen throughout, continue to be impressed with our new-found D (where was this D line in the first four games?), and am excited to see Simas playing a bigger role in the offense. Hats off to KU – they’re a great team. I’m relieved we’ll never have to play Reising again.
Great win
1-0 in the north!!!!!
Hopefully this is just the start of some amazing things. It will be interesting to see if the same team shows up on the road next week. Go Buffs!

Can't get any better today
Had a great game, huskers lose, now if only the refs didn’t cost arkansas the game……
Loved the gameplan and the Defense created turnovers.
That D Line is legit and still so young
Great play by West near the end of the game getting great pressure on the QB.
Very excited about the D-Line.
It’s progressing very nicely and you can see the combination of talent and coaching starting to come together for those guys. As bad as I think our coaching staff is as a whole, some of those guys are doing their job. I think both of the lines have really started to come together and with a roster built under the premise of physicality and smashmouth football, that had to be the first major step if we were planning on salvaging anything from this year.

Nick Kasa
was in there alot. He is one big freshman. Forest West, and Nate Bonsu. A lot of true freshman playing on the D-line. Future might be real bright if they continue to develop. Any Jon Major sightings tonight?
Did not notice
but I noticed Jeff Smart repeatedly getting smoked by Briscoe. I love they’re letting the kids play. There’s a lot of talent on this team but the coaching has continually gotten in the way of it blossoming into a cohesive group. I’m not sure who all got the most reps at LB tonight. I was more focused on the D-Line. Sorry =(

Yeah
Smart is a solid college player but Briscoe is a next-level type of talent and that matchup was just asking to be repeatedly exploited and it was.

Phenomonal
Amazing win, and the heart has finally gone down to a normal rate. Hansen’s extending the plays is a great dimension, even though I might have a heart attack by the A&M game at this pace. We need to clean up a few things (mental mistakes…BEATTY HELLO??), and we lost the turnover battle against at top 15 team and still won! INCREDIBLE! I also noticed more players getting involved. I think Simas had more balls his way in this game than all the other games combined. Let’s enjoy this one!
The false starts have to stop.
I mean, they HAVE to stop.

No excuse for all those false starts at home.

No more mental mistakes
Physical mistakes will happen – but no more mental mistakes
Mental mistakes will happen
It’s a stressful environment and they’re bound to happen but the number of false starts this season has been ridiculous. The snap count should not be that difficult to remember. We really need to limit the stupidity in games.

Love the win!
Finally, something to build off of for a young team! Still way to many mental mistakes but you have to love the way these guys fought the whole game – in Hawk’s prose “they finished”. Kansas’s offense is solid and I thought our D played very well. The DBs overall played great – you have to give Briscoe & Meier their props (and yards) but almost every pass was contested – and that is all you can ask for in a secondary against those guys. It will be interesting to see how they look next week against the Sooners.
Love Hansen and his ability to get away from pressure. Cody looked like the biggest cheerleader which is good to see. Would still like to see more or any of Simmons, Scott & Jefferson. Good win!
by CleBUFFS on Oct 17, 2009 9:49 PM MDT via mobile reply actions
I never even saw Simmons
in the game tonight. Jefferson was in the huddle on the first series and Wright had a pass thrown his way. I wonder if McKnight is bummed he won’t get 20 passes thrown his way each game?
I think McKnight is happy
to have some pressure taken off of him, get the win, and he didn’t get knocked senseless even once this game.
Never thought of it that way
he didn’t get knocked senseless

I was at the game
Jefferson was the third wide reciever pretty much the whole night, he was on the field quite a bit. Saw Simmons and Wright very sparingly. I saw Lochridge and Scott lined up at reciever more than those guys.
Finally... a quarterback that can (and does) stretch the field.
It’s amazing how many offensize opportunities present themselves when you can throw the ball deep without the threat of being picked off. I’m so excited for Hansen to get seasoned and lead this team.
I loved the game. I wouldn’t say we finished, but we certainly gave what we had to at the end to keep from being beat.
The entire situation just makes me think: what would our season have been like if Hansen had been the starter day one?
Doesn't matter now.
What matters is what Hansen and this team do with the remainder of their schedule.

So true...
Especially as we go to a Manhattan to play a KSU team that is coming off an extremely strong win and leading the North with a 2-1 conference record.
Need another strong performance from our D next week
Looks like K State has a more explosive offense than anyone expected.

k state
k state still lacks talent at a lot of position, and doesnt throw the ball well; however they have a talented (albeit tiny) reciever in Banks and, from what I’ve seen, their running back may be the most talented in the Big 12… certainly should be a winnable game nonetheless

I don’t know who that was, but for a while there I seriously thought he was going to leave the booth and go down to the field to blow Reesing. Seriously, that guy needed to stfu he talked 85% of the game.
I wonder
if we saw more of the skill players with Hansen because he had practiced more with them than Hawkins had?
Now if the RBs can just catch the ball when Hansen comes through on a broken play…. Would have been a much bigger win for sure.
I agree, great win and congrats to Tyler. ON offense now that the ball can be thrown vertical the buffs need to get a receiver who can stretch the def. That doesnt exist now. The tight end has been a threat for years now accross the middle. They got to be able to take it deep.On def they need to get more speed at linebacker and bigger faster dbacks and safetys. The secondary has been suspect for several years now. If there would have been more time on the clock, on that final drive, Things might have turned out different. Overall congrats
Anyone know if we had recruits at the game?
This would have been a great game to have had some good recruits at! Anyone know how many they had and who came? Would have been cool for them to see the field rushed after the win…
Seem to remember that was pretty impactful after the WV win last year…
Per Rivals
there were 3 guys visiting:
Cecil Whiteside – soft commit to Cal, #4 OLB in the country (#36 overall)
Daniel Munyer – committed to CU, OL
Anthony Beard – undecided ILB from Texas
Proud
One hell of a win. This cements my tenative belief hanson is our starter. Played fantastic. I
do love how much Cody loves the program and he will be a great coach someday. This was a huge win against a very good team. And yet it felt inevitable…. Very proud!!!! Let’s go buffs!!! And a suprisingly well coached game hawk. Yaaaaaaaa
