Colorado Prep, TE DaVaughn Thornton, Commits to Buffs

Well, no shocker here. According to scout.com, DaVaughn Thornton (Denver East High School) has committed to the Buffs following his weekend visit in Boulder. That is the 12th commit Colorado has received in the 2009 cycle. Thornton brings good athleticism to the position and some much needed depth as TE Riar Geer and TE Patrick Devenney are both seniors this year. Once again, the Buffs are able to sign another in-state prospect, the fourth of 2009. Thornton has a bunch of upside with good size and basketball player like athleticism. He will need to dedicate himself to the weight room and learn all the blocking & route running techniques that make you an elite prospect at the next level. It should be interesting to see how he develops. The sky is the limit.

Hopefully this is just the start of things to come today. I would expect to hear this news about K Zach Grossnickle shortly.

Here is a breakdown of TE DaVaughn Thornton that we did earlier this week.

DaVaughn Thornton's vitals:

Position: TE
Scout Profile
Rivals Profile
ESPN Profile
Ht: 6'5"
Wt: 217 lbs
High School:  Denver East (CO) Denver

Congrats to the staff and Thornton...Go Buffs!

Definately seems light, but looks like a good project, and like the in-state kids

he has a good frame to put on weight...i think he will be more of a flex WR/TE option at the next

level anyway…we needed a guy who was athletic at the TE spot. One constant in the Buffs offense has been good TE’s…we need to get that dynamic pass catcher back.

True, but I figured Daden would fill that role as a flex

Do you think Thornton will redshirt? Also, any concerns that no one else besides Grossnickle committed today?

Yes, Thornton will probably redshirt

he is very raw in my opinion. He still has a lot to learn about being a productive tight end.

I think we are going to see more commits, maybe not tonight, but soon out of this group who came to Boulder this weekend.

Good day so far

I like the potential in both Grossnickle and Thornton, and it’s great to see more home grown talent on the team.

More commits

I think we are going to see more commits, maybe not tonight, but soon out of this group who came to Boulder this weekend.

Remember, a lot of these kids have a long plane flight home and might not get back with anyone on their status until Monday. Only Grossnickle and Thornton were local, so they are the two that could jump on a phone call.

I’m holding out that a few more committed and we just don’t have confirmation yet.

Irish – ever thought about asking the East coach what his thoughts are on these to guys?
