Kansas State QB Josh Freeman Will Enter NFL Draft

From ESPN.com:

Kansas State junior quarterback Josh Freeman said Thursday he will enter this spring's NFL draft.

"I've done all the research," said Freeman, who is 6-6, 238 pounds. "Kansas State is starting over and this is what I've always wanted to do. The time is right."

Freeman says he has been told by an NFL advisory committee that he could be a high second-round pick. But Freeman could work his way into the first round because of his prototypical size and arm strength.

Freeman said his decision might have been more difficult if Ron Prince had not been let go, but that playing for Bill Snyder was an attractive possibility, too.

"I hope to bring leadership and toughness to an NFL team," Freeman said.

It will be interesting to see where he gets slotted by the draft guru's of the world.

AWESOME!

has maclin made his final decision yet? I want all the good players in the big 12 to leave early so we can make a run next year.

no word yet...if Maclin and Suh from Nebraska both went to the NFL

that would be huge. Not holding my breath on either of them though.

watching parts of mizzou and NUs bowls

I know I heard from the sideline reports that maclin was probably going pro and Suh “really wanted to come back for his senior year.”

I would be mildly shocked if either comes back...

Maclin loses his quarterback and his return numbers were already down this year now that the word is out on him. He’s being projected in the first round and he’s the type of guy that will test very well at the combine.

Suh…again, last projection I saw on him was late 1st round so I would think he would go but I’m a little less sure on him. He really finished the year strong though.

lol

Jackson commits to Colorado, Kansas State gets a lot worse, and Mizzou might be losing their most dynamic playmaker. Pretty good day for the Buffs…

Little doubt that....

Missouri will be losing there top 2 playmakers Maclin will go…and Coffman obviously has to.

yes Booger McDaniel is gone as well...

but they do have 5 star Blain Gabbert waiting in the wings so while I’m sure there will be an initial dropoff, Gabbert has the talent to potentially be better.

Don't let the door hit ya'

in the arse on the way outta town. Never thought much of this cat but he did seem to give the Buffs fits. So I say good riddance and good luck in the NFL. WOnder who’d take a flyer on this guy? Detroit needs a QB, as does Minn?

To be fair

it’s a pretty crappy QB class. When Matthew Stafford and Sam Bradford are being looked at as potential Top 10 picks, and no other QB really worthy of a Day One selection, a guy like Freeman can be really intriguing. He never blew anyone’s socks off, but when it comes to the NFL Draft, you can guarantee their actual play on the field is what will get lost behind looking at an athlete like Freeman who is going to look amazing in workouts. Teams ALWAYS make mistakes by taking guys like that too high based on “what could be” instead of just looking at his career and seeing that he’s an average QB.

You notice how he said he hopes to bring “leadership and toughness to an NFL team”. You notice he didn’t say anything about playing time? Yeah, I would think he has to know the truth. In a weak QB class, his body of work as an ATHLETE in the workouts is going to make him a lot of money, but his work as a QB will quickly relegate him to career backup status.

Granted it is a weak class, but I don't move a guy up just because it is a weak class

He is a 4th or 5th round prospect at best at this point, in my mind, why waste a high draft pick on just an athlete, look, there are plenty of guys with big arms and that are big that never make it (Ryan Leaf). QB is a unique position and that you either have a guy or you don’t, but seriously outside of Detroit, KC, Tampa, and maybe Chicago, who would be looking for QB in the 1st round, Chase Daniels is better than him, and I think Chase Daniels is a career backup.

I doubt Chase Daniel will ever make a NFL roster

He’s short and fat :-) But yeah, Chase Daniel was a MUCH better college QB than Freeman but that means exactly zilch in the NFL. Charlie Ward and Erich Crouch were pretty good college QBs too.

But neither of those guys could throw the ball, at least Daniels can throw

Sonny Jergenson was short and fat too.

He also

played in a completely different era in which any of the stars of that era wouldn’t have a place today.

I'm not saying it makes a lot of sense dude

I’m just saying that’s how the draft works.
