Around SBN: VIDEO: Austin Rivers' Buzzer Beater Finishes Off UNC

AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Iowa State football coach Gene Chizik is making big changes to his coaching staff after the Cyclones' dismal 2-10 season.

Chizik has removed his offensive and defensive coordinators and fired two other assistants.

Chizik, in a statement released on Sunday, announced that offensive coordinator Robert McFarland and defensive coordinator Wayne Bolt have been removed.

Bolt will remain as linebackers coach, while McFarland will retain his role as an assistant coach and remain as the offensive line coach.

Chizik dismissed quarterbacks coach Tony Petersen and secondary coach Shawn Raney.

One must begin to wonder if Hawkins will pull the trigger anytime soon. I will be disappointed if the Buffs don't upgrade or make some drastic changes in the offseason, before everyone else does.

Off Topic: How good does a Lane Kiffin hire sound right now with the package of his dad and Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin and former Ole Miss coach and recruiting guru Ed Orgeron?

it was a bit of a surprise

that the move was made so quickly. not in that it was made at this time of year…but it was made this year.

We are hoping Hawkins follows suit...precedence has now been set

with the firing of Ron Prince and now the firing of underperforming offensive coordinators

I'm a big Vols fan and woooooooooooooooooooooo

How sweet can a average or below average recruiter go into a recruits house and say how would you like to be part of a Monte Kiffin defense on your way to the NFL?

And throw in that Orgeron is the mastermind that really got USC going along with Kiffin on the recruiting aspect and got Dein Snead to Ole Miss, a 5* recruit to Ole miss that Houston Nutt is now enjoying.

I can’t wait to see if they get David Reaves who has been helping Spurrier recruit the SEC.

Only bad part for me, a potential OC for the Vols………..Callahan

Callahan would suck

but those three guys will get things done. That is like the dream team of coaches available.

Dein Snead

Who? Is he related to former 4* transfer Jevan Snead?

by Texas Wahoo on Dec 1, 2008 2:55 PM MST up reply actions

Probably meant Jevan Snead

who is going to be on that short list of best quarterbacks next year

Snead

I’m as big a Jevan Snead fan as the next guy – he won me a lot of PS2 national championships. But the short list of top qbs? I guess if McCoy/Bradford/Tebow all go pro, there aren’t a lot of big names out there, but still. I’m just not so sure. He’ll definitely get a lot more press if Ole Miss keeps winning.

Very interesting hire

I think Kiffin might of been better served to look at an OC position in the pros first, but UT is a place that he could have very good success at. My question is, will he bolt for the NFL in 3 to 4 years, or is this where he will be comfortable for the next 20 years?

Somehow Al Davis may have deterred him from ever wanting to go back to the pros :)
