Texas Announces Defensive Coordinator Will Muschamp As Next Head Coach
...when Mack Brown decides to retire. Mack Brown has eight years left on his contract and in the press release said:
"This is first and foremost about keeping Will at Texas," Brown said. "He's had several opportunities to interview for head coaching jobs, but we wanted him to stay here. I'm going to continue coaching as I'm enjoying it. I have eight years left on my contract, I am not thinking at all about moving on, it's simply that I think Will is a great young coach, a perfect fit for this place and he wants to stay. Nothing will change in our structure. He will continue in his role as defensive coordinator and when the time comes, will be ready to step in and take over the program."
Weird timing. He has been there one year and Mack Brown isn't really a retiree candidate in my mind. Muschamp could be waiting a long time. Head on over to Burnt Orange Nation for more insight...they are pretty excited about the news over there. Trying to rationalize this move from Muschamp's side. I guess he got a huge pay increase, a vote of confidence and what is stopping him from leaving tomorrow or next year. Nothing except his school of choice having to pay a big buyout. It's going to be interesting to see if he is ever the head coach at Texas.

this seems to be the trend in football
the guy at FSU, rumors of penn state doing the same thing. Trying to keep a guy there for their next opening but you really think hes going to wait at least 8 yrs to get a job?
Why wouldnt’ he take his shot at an Auburn/Clemson if the spot was available to him this yr instead of waiting 8 yrs
