Thursday Buff Bites - Welcome Back Buffs!
Man, it's good to be back in this country. Don't get me wrong; England's got great castles and awesome Ancient Egyptian loot artifacts, but there's one thing they don't have, and that's CU BUFFS FOOTBALL! Only 2 Days Left until Buffs Football is Back!
The Athletic Department's theme this year looks back at the 1990 Championship Team. Meanwhile, we continue our inexorable departure from the Big 12 and news breaks on the Big Ten's new divisonal alignment.
CUBuffs.com has double-nostalgia going, as they're re-printing the Rocky Mountain News stories of each CU football game from the 1990 National Championship season. Brooks starts with our Tie against Tennessee.
Big Ten Divisions Set, Traditionalists Can Breathe - Bleacher Report - The Big Ten divisons have no name but do have a guaranteed cross-divisonal rivalry game.
"At present, the divisions are simply being called "X' and "O," and geography had nothing to do with how they were chosen."
| Divison "X" | Division "O" |
| Ohio St. | Iowa |
| Indiana | Michigan |
| Illinois | Michigan St. |
| Penn St. | Minnesota |
| Purdue | Nebraska |

Kiszla: Coach Mac still sharp as a tack - The Denver Post
"Colorado football is a sleeping giant!" McCartney declared Wednesday "I think like a football coach. I smell like one," McCartney said. "I never stopped missing football."
I love how McCartney speaks, and it sounds like some of our new assistant coaches have some of the firebrand in 'em as well.
CU Buffs defense: No more big plays - Buffzone
Remember spring and summer practices a year ago, when defensive players and coaches often insisted they weren`t making significant changes in advance of the 2009 season? Turns out they were... All you hear these days from the Buffs as they reflect on the past is how they`re much better acquainted with the schemes they plan to use this year, beginning Saturday in the season opener against Colorado State."We`ve got so much more experience," linebacker Tyler Ahles said. "All the same guys are back. In terms of last year, it was kind of a little bit of a new defense, and this year it`s something we`ve been working on since the spring and all of last year. So I would say we`re way ahead of that."
With Colorado State fielding an inexperienced offensive line and a true freshman quarterback on Saturday, the Buffs are expecting the Rams to run the ball as much as they can. "We know we can stop the run," Major said. "They have a young quarterback and you can expect them to run the ball. I mean, they`re a running team. Preparation for this game has been significantly better."
Cross Country is ranked, Richardson might be a specialty-use player, and the Daily Camera says every week should be a rivalry. After the jump.

Missouri Starting RB Derrick Washington Kicked Off Team
From ESPN.com:
Missouri has "permanently suspended" running back Derrick Washington, who was charged earlier this week with felony sexual assault stemming from a June incident.
A campus detective's probable cause statement filed Monday says Washington entered the woman's closed bedroom while visiting her roommate and allegedly assaulted the woman while she slept.
The 21-year-old Washington led Missouri in rushing for the past two seasons, totaling 1,901 yards and 27 touchdowns. Entering his senior season, Washington had his best preseason after dropping several pounds and recovering from a nagging knee injury from 2009.
CU Buffs Preview From Corn Nation
They don't give us much respect, basing much of their preview on last years results. But that's how it goes.
Colorado Buffaloes Prediction Time! Bowl or No Bowl in 2010?
With the season less than a week away, it's time for some Colorado Buffalo football predictions. We have gathered The Ralphie Report writers to give their take on how the season will turn out. Do we foresee success in 2010 or will we be waiting for the day after the Nebraska game for a change in the program's direction? Personally, I am more excited for this year than I thought I would be. It might just be the long days without football or it might just be that I see a depth chart that has some experience and some potential talent.
Let's move on to the predictions, we invite you to give your thoughts to our questions in the comment section below:
1) The Buffs play five games on the road this year - @ Cal, @ Missouri, @ Oklahoma, @ Kansas and @ Nebraska. Any chance the Buffs break the road losing streak this year?
2) Who will be the Buffs leading receiver in 2010? WR Toney Clemons, WR Scotty McKnight, WR Travon Patterson or WR Paul Richardson?
3) Will Cody Hawkins get 40 snaps this year?
4) In one or two words, what best describes this team right now?
5) Who will be the offensive MVP?
6) Who will be the defensive MVP?
7) Who will be the true freshman to make the biggest mark in 2010?
8) Biggest worry for 2010? Thing you are least worried about in 2010?
9) Higher/Lower: Tyler Hansen. Seventh in the Big 12 in yards passing?
10) The one game you are looking forward to the most in 2010?
11) November 26th rolls around. What are we talking about more: who will be the next coach of the Colorado Buffaloes or reminiscing about past Nebraska games as this may be the last between the two for a long time?
12) Big 12 North winner? Big 12 South winner? Big 12 overall winner? National Champion?
13) Now time for the Buffs' game by game win/loss assessment:
Positional Outlooks: Offensive Guards and Centers
I'm writing some positional outlooks for our beloved Buffaloes. They are based on what I've read and seen of the players we've got.
****For time's sake I'll combine these two****

Redshirt Freshman RT David Bakhtiari Will Start Against Colorado State
Kyle Ringo of the BDC is reporting that David Bakhtiari will start at right tackle over Bryce Givens who is nursing an ankle injury. Ringo also notes a few other "inexperienced" players that will get some time against Colorado State. You can probably also add DE Chidera Uzo-Diribe to the list of first year players who will see time this year:
Redshirt freshman right tackle David Bakhtiari has earned the starting job with Bryce Givens sidelined with a sprained ankle much of the past two weeks. It will be Bakhtiari's first college game, a fact that probably isn't lost on CSU defensive coordinator Larry Kerr.
Redshirt freshman nickel back Parker Orms has looked solid through two months of practices dating back to spring ball. He made the most of his opportunity to learn from senior Cha'pelle Brown last year. His teammates and coaches would say Orms is probably more likely to make a big play Saturday than to give up one, but who do you suppose Fairchild would rather attack, Orms or fifth-year senior cornerbacks Jalil Brown and Jimmy Smith?
Freshman tailback Justin Torres is slated to play and figures to get the ball in short-yardage situations. Torres has earned his playing time by learning his assignments quickly and running hard. Fellow true freshman Paul Richardson has done the same at wide receiver. But they are true freshmen playing in front of 70,000 people for the first time. No one knows how they might react.
